How do I move my email from Outlook Express to my PC running Windows 8.1?

Outlook Express is no longer available or supported by Microsoft. We can help you move your email and contacts to Outlook.com.

Outlook.com is a free personal web-based email service that's easy to use. It has many of the same great features of Outlook Express along with some new ones. You can keep your current email address, send photos and files in email, and keep your inbox tidy. You can also get to your email from any connected PC, tablet, or phone. Follow the steps below and the Mail Migration add-on will move your email and contacts over from Outlook Express.

Sign up for Outlook.com and move your Outlook Express email and contacts

When you sign up for Outlook.com, your email address and password are your Microsoft account. If you have an email address that ends in msn.com, hotmail.com, live.com, or outlook.com, you already have a Microsoft account.

  • Make sure you're on the PC that has your Outlook Express email and contacts. While you're on that PC, click the button below that says Get started. This will launch the Mail Migration add-on that will move your mail and contacts.

  • You'll get to the Outlook.com sign-in page. Do one of the following:

If you don't have a Microsoft account, click Sign up now near the bottom of the page (where it asks if you have a Microsoft account). Then enter your email address and password to create your Outlook.com account.

If you already have a Microsoft account, enter your email address and password.

  • Once you're signed in, the Mail Migration add-on will automatically move your contacts and email to your Outlook.com account.
