Adjust the brightness and contrast in a picture

Taking pictures with inaccurate exposure can result in pictures that are too bright or too dark. Often, you can dramatically improve a digital picture by correcting the brightness and contrast. You can use the automatic correction tool in Photo Gallery or adjust the exposure yourself.

Notes

  • If you don't like the Auto Adjust results, click Adjust Exposure, and then use the Brightness and Contrast sliders to make the changes yourself. You can also click Undo to remove changes made by Auto Adjust.

  • If you increase or decrease the brightness, you will also usually need to increase or decrease the contrast by a smaller amount to make the picture look properly exposed.
