Editing and sharing videos is easier than ever. Here's a step-by-step guide that shows how to quickly record a video clip, turn it into a professional-looking movie, and share it with your friends and family:
Press the camera button (usually found on the long edge of your phone), then tap the video mode icon and you'll see the video counter on the screen. Press the camera button to start recording, and press it again to stop recording.
On your Windows Phone, go to Pictures, find your video, tap and hold it, and then choose Share on SkyDrive. (If the option to share on SkyDrive doesn't appear on your phone, tap Pictures, tap More, tap Settings, tap Quick Share Account, and then select SkyDrive.) SkyDrive is a free online service for storing and sharing files. After you've uploaded your video to SkyDrive, you can get to it from any online PC or laptop by signing in to your SkyDrive account.
You can also use SkyDrive to share the video with someone else. Just go online on your PC or laptop, go to the SkyDrive directory the video is in, and click Share folder. Then, in the Add additional people box, type the name of the person you want to share with. If you've got that person in your contact list, their name will pop up as soon as you start typing. If you want, SkyDrive will also send that person an email from you to tell them the video is available.
OK, now you have a video, either your own or one you got from a friend via SkyDrive. To edit the video, right-click it on your desktop and click Open with Movie Maker.
Movie Maker is a free program that makes it easy to turn your photos and videos into polished movies. If you're running Windows 7, you already have Movie Maker. If you don’t have Windows 7, get Movie Maker for free here.
Now that you've got the video open, click Add music (a button you'll see at the top of the Movie Maker window on the Home tab) to choose a soundtrack. This button will open a window that will let you navigate to a music file on your PC or laptop. (You can read more about working with audio in Movie Maker here.)
Next, choose a theme. You'll see all available themes to choose right at the top of the Movie Maker window where it says AutoMovie themes. Applying a theme will automatically add a title screen, a credit screen, and transition effects to make your video polished and ready to share.
To change the default title ("My Movie") added by the theme, click it and type your own title. Do the same for the credits.
To cut frames and shorten your video like you see in the video, go the Edit tab, and choose the Trim tool.
To share your video with the world, choose one (or more) of the buttons at the top of the Movie Maker window: SkyDrive, Facebook, or YouTube. Read more about sharing with Movie Maker here.
That's it! Congratulations. In minutes, you've gone from inspiration to collaboration and sharing.
