Applies to Windows 8, Windows RT

Where is the Start menu?

The Start screen replaces the Start menu in Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Open Start by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the top-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer down), then tapping or clicking Start.

Tip

Tip

  • You can also use the Windows key Windows key on your keyboard to go to Start.

You can pin applications, contacts and websites to Start to easily access what you use most. All of your applications – both apps you install from the Windows Store and desktop applications – are available from the Start screen. You can organise, group and name categories of applications in whatever way makes sense to you. For more information, see Customising the Start screen.
