Change how you view a Journal note
A view describes the way in which Windows Journal displays a note. As you work in Journal, you can choose the view that best fits your task, the page size of the note, and your Tablet PC screen orientation.
Journal provides three kinds of views:
-
Fixed-zoom
view. The degree of magnification or reduction of the page
remains constant even if you resize the Journal
window.
-
Automatic-zoom
view. The page is automatically resized as you resize the
Journal window. Automatic-zoom views
include:
-
Page
width
-
Whole
page
-
Two
pages
-
Reading
view
-
Full
screen view. This view provides the maximum amount of viewing
area.
Note
Changing the Journal view
does not affect the contents of a
note.
Show all
When you use a fixed-zoom view, you specify the degree of magnification or reduction of the page that you see in the Journal window. This magnification or reduction remains constant even if you resize the Journal window.
-
A higher zoom number makes items on the page appear larger, but you see less of the page.
-
A smaller number makes items on the page appear smaller, but you see more of the page.
You can choose a fixed-zoom number from the Zoom list on the Standard toolbar or you can enter the number that you want.
You can also tap buttons on the View toolbar to zoom in and zoom out in preset increments.
To set a fixed-zoom level by using the Zoom box
-
On the Standard toolbar, tap the small arrow to the right of the Zoom box.
-
Tap the number that you want.
To zoom in or zoom out by using the View toolbar
-
To see the Zoom buttons, tap the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then tap View.
-
Tap the Zoom In button to zoom in or the Zoom Out button to zoom out.
In an automatic-zoom view, the page size automatically increases or decreases if you resize the Journal window or change your tablet screen orientation. You can easily try different views to determine the one best suited for your particular task.
Automatic-zoom views include:
-
Page width. This view fits the width of the note pages into the available viewing area. This can be useful if your note pages are too wide to be completely visible in other views or if you change your tablet screen orientation from landscape to portrait. More than one page may be displayed.
-
Whole page. This view displays entire pages of your note. This can be useful if your individual note pages are too long to be completely displayed in other views. More than one page may be displayed.
-
Two pages. This view displays two full-width pages side by side in the viewing area. This can be useful if you view a note with portrait orientation on a Tablet PC with landscape orientation. More than two pages may be displayed.
-
Reading view. This view displays one full page in the viewing area with no overlapping pages visible. Depending on the size of the viewing area, the one page may be displayed in sections. This can provide a convenient way to read, write, or edit a note.
To view a note by using the automatic-zoom view
-
On the Standard toolbar, tap the small arrow to the right of the Zoom box.
-
In the list, tap Page Width, Whole Page, Two Pages, or Reading View.
To show the scroll bar in the reading view
In reading view, you can use the vertical scroll bar to move from page to page in your note. You can drag the scroll box up and down, and you can tap in the bar above and below the scroll box to move through your note one page at a time.
-
Tap the Tools menu, and then tap Options.
-
Tap the View tab, and under View, select the Show scrollbar in reading view check box.
-
Tap OK.
The full screen view provides the maximum amount of viewing area for Journal notes. When you choose the full screen view, the Journal window automatically increases to its maximum size with only the Journal menu bar displayed. This view can be especially useful when you are marking up a document image.
You can also choose to display or hide toolbars in the full screen view. The toolbar settings that you make while in the full screen view apply only to that view.
To use the full screen view
-
Tap the View menu, and then tap Full Screen.
You can switch back to the previous view by tapping the Full Screen command again.
Tip
You can tap the F11 key to switch to and from full screen view.
