Find text in a Journal note
You can search for handwriting, typed text, and note titles in one or several of your Windows Journal notes and you can refine your search in different ways. You can also search for notes that contain flags.
With Journal, you can use the Find command to look for text in your notes that appears as:

Handwriting
-
Typed text
-
Titles of note files
You can also choose in which files or folders you want to look for the text.

You can use the find pane to look for handwriting only after you enable handwriting recognition on the Other tab of the Options dialog box.

Handwriting recognition is currently available for English, Japanese, Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), Korean, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, and Portuguese (Brazil). If you are not using one of these input languages, you can use the on-screen keyboard in Tablet PC Input Panel to enter text without using a standard keyboard.

Open Windows Journal by tapping the Start button
, typing Journal in the search box, and then tapping Windows Journal in the list of results.

On the Standard toolbar, tap Find.

Enter your text you want to find in the Look for box.

Tap the small arrow to the right of the Look in box, and then select the title of the folder or note that you want to search.

If necessary, tap More and select additional search criteria. For more information about how to use the search criteria, see the table later in this topic.

Tap Find.
Tip
The list of search results appears in a pane below the Look for and Look in boxes. If your search results include many notes, tap Previous or Next to move through all occurrences of the text in the list of found notes.
You can set further criteria for this search, such as:

Including close word matches
-
Including document image text
-
Looking for notes that contain flags
-
Looking for the notes that were created or changed on specific dates
The following table shows the advanced find options that you can use to search your Journal notes.

Increase the chance that handwriting is found, even if it was recognized incorrectly.

Select the Include close matches check box.
When you select Include close matches, Journal searches through the recognized handwriting for all of the notes that you chose to search in. If the item you are searching for isn't found in the recognized handwriting, Journal then searches the alternate words that were assigned to your handwriting when it was first recognized. In some languages, it also searches for words that partially match the item you are searching for.

Search for text in a document image.

Select the Include document image check box.
When you select Include document image, Journal searches through the text of all of the notes and document images that you chose to search in.

Limit your search to notes that contain flags.
|
Select the Look for flags check box.
When you select Look for flags, Journal looks only in those notes that contain one or more flags.

Expand your search to include any subfolders of the chosen folders.
|
Select the Include subfolders check box.
When you select Include subfolders, Journal searches through all of the folders that you chose in the Look in list and includes any subfolders of the chosen folders.

Limit your search to find notes that last you worked on during a specific date or date range.
|
Under Last modification date, tap Any, Within the last week, Within the past month, or Specify date.
When you limit your search by last modification date, Journal looks for the text in notes that were last changed in the specified time range.

Limit your search to find notes that were first created on a specific date or date range.
|
Under Last modification date, tap Specify date, tap the small arrow to the right of the Specify date list, tap Date created, select a date range in the From and To boxes.
When you limit your search by date created, Journal looks for the text in notes that were first created in specified time range.
