View the contents of a device or folder before syncing
Before you sync, it's often helpful to check the contents of the mobile device, network folder, or computer you plan to sync with to see what files are there and how recent they are. Sync Center makes this easy by allowing you to check the contents of any sync partnership.
-
Open Sync Center by clicking the Start button
, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then clicking Sync Center.
-
Right-click the sync partnership you want to view, and then click Explore. The contents of the sync partnership will be displayed in a new window.
Not all sync partnerships give you the option to browse their contents. If you do not see the option to browse contents when you right-click a sync partnership, you can view the contents by other methods:
-
To view the contents of a mobile device, you can look in the device itself or start any programs that came with the device or that you downloaded from the device manufacturer. You can also try opening the Computer folder to see if the device is listed there. If the device is listed, you should be able to browse its contents. For more information, see Sync with a device.
-
To view the contents of a network server or other computer on your network, open the Network folder, look for the computer with the files you want to view, and then double-click the computer's icon to see which files and folders you have permission to access.
Note
The ability to sync with network folders is not included in Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, and Windows Vista Home Premium.
