Get photos and video clips onto your PC to use in your movie

Import your files

Creating a movie starts by collecting your video clips and photos. You can import them from your camera or phone, or you can use videos you already have on your PC.

Import with the Photos app

You can use the Photos app to import video clips and photos from your camera, phone, or storage card. Here's how:

  • Open the Search charm, enter Photos, and then tap or click Photos.

  • Connect your camera, phone, or storage card to your PC, swipe up from the bottom edge, and then tap Import.

    (If you're using a mouse, right-click in the Photos app, then click Import.)

  • Tap or click the camera, phone, or storage card you want to import from.

  • Swipe down on or right-click each video or photo you want to import to select it.

  • Enter a name for the folder you want to put the files in, and then tap or click Import.

Import with Photo Gallery

If you're using Windows 8, you can use Photo Gallery to import photos from a camera or phone.

Here's how to import files with Photo Gallery:

  • Open the Search charm, enter Photo Gallery, and the tap or click Photo Gallery.

  • On the Home tab, tap or click Import from device, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Use Photo Gallery to import video to your PC

Once your photos and videos are imported into Photo Gallery, select the ones you want to use and tap or click Movie from the Create tab. Movie Maker will open with the files you've selected.

If your photos and videos are already on your PC, open Movie Maker, tap or click Click here to browse for videos and photos, and then select the files you want to add to your movie.
