No matter what kind of music you love, you can get it with the Music app.

Free music streaming

With Xbox Music in the Music app, you get access to millions of songs that you can instantly stream for free to your PC or tablet. And you can create and save playlists for easy access to your favorite songs.

Here's how to stream music:

  • Open the Search charm, enter music, tap or click Apps, and then tap or click Music.

  • In the Music app, open the Search charm, enter an artist, album, or song, and then tap or click search.

  • Choose the artist, album, or song you want, and then click play.

Search for the artists you love and play your favorite songs or full albums. And when you have a selection of songs you like, you can create and save playlists to build up your music collection.

Here's how to create a playlist:

  • Open the Search charm, enter music, tap or click Apps, and then tap or click Music.

  • Scroll to the left, and then tap or click my music.

  • Tap or click playlists, and then tap or click Start a new playlist.

  • Enter a name for your playlist, and then tap or click Save.

  • Select albums or songs in your collection, and then tap or click Add to playlist from the app commands.

    The next time you want to add a song to the playlist, you’ll see a link to add it.

Xbox Music Pass

Buy an Xbox Music Pass to get unlimited access to millions of songs, without ever being interrupted by ads. Stream or download the songs and play them on your PC, tablet, Windows Phone, or Xbox 360. You can even listen to your music when you’re offline and on the go. Create and save your own custom playlists, or let SmartDJ create them for you based on the artists you know and love.

Buy songs and albums

You can buy songs or albums by your favorite artists right from the Music app.

Here's how:

  • Open the Search charm, enter music, tap or click Apps, and then tap or click Music.

  • In the Music app, open the Search charm to search for specific songs, albums, or artists. Or, for more choices, tap or click xbox music store, new releases or popular.

  • Pick a song or album, and then follow the on-screen instructions to buy it.

Copy songs from a CD to your PC

If you want to rip or copy music from a CD you already own to your hard drive, you can use Windows Media Player.

  • Open the Search charm, enter Windows Media Player, and then tap or click Windows Media Player.

  • Insert an audio CD into the CD drive.

  • Select the check boxes next to the songs you want to rip, and then tap or click Rip CD.

    When your songs have been ripped, you can find and play them in the Player Library, or play them in the Music app.
