Here are answers to common questions about Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0.

Use the IIS Manager 6.0 snap-in to make a remote connection to the IIS 6.0 web server from IIS 7.0. After you connect to the remote web server, use IIS Manager 6.0 the same way you used it with IIS 6.0.

First, install IIS by following the instructions in Install Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0.

If you use Control Panel to install IIS, you get the default installation, which has a minimum set of features. If you need additional IIS features, such as application development features or web management tools, click the plus sign (+) next to Internet Information Services, click the plus sign (+) next to World Wide Web Services, click the plus sign (+) next to Application Development Features, select the dynamic content features you want to install, and then click OK.

Next, follow these steps to open IIS Manager:

  1. Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Run.

  2. In the Run box, type mmc, and then click OK.

  3. In the MMC console, click File, and then click Add/Remove Snap-in. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  4. On the Add or Remove Snap-ins dialog box, in the Available snap-ins list, click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

  5. Click Add, and then click OK.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) settings are not managed through IIS 7.0; they are managed by the IIS Manager 6.0 snap-in and the IIS metabase.
