Hotmail Help & How-to
If you have multiple email accounts, you can receive, read, and respond to mail from other email accounts right from your Hotmail account. Some email providers, such as Gmail and Yahoo! Mail Plus, offer POP3 access (a standard protocol for receiving email) and let you forward mail to another email address. Contact your email provider to determine whether they offer this feature. If you have another email account with POP3 access, you can configure Windows Live Hotmail to receive, read and send mail from that POP3 account.
Prepare your Gmail or Yahoo! Mail Plus account. If you have a different POP3 email account, go to step 2.
Set up your Gmail account:
Sign in to your Gmail account.
Click Settings.
Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
In the POP Download section, select either Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded) or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.
Click Save Changes.
Verify your Yahoo! Mail Plus account:
Sign in to your Yahoo! Mail Plus account.
Verify that you have a paid Yahoo! Mail Plus account. You can only add Yahoo! Mail Plus as a POP3 account to your Windows Live Hotmail account if you have a paid Yahoo! Mail Plus account.
Sign in to Windows Live Hotmail with your Windows Live ID.
On the toolbar, click Options, and then click More options.
Under Manage your account, click Send and receive mail from other email accounts.
Under You can receive mail from these accounts, click Add an email account.
Enter the email address and password of the email account that you want to send and receive mail from, and then click Next.
Windows Live Hotmail provides the recommended settings. If you're prompted to verify the settings, or if Windows Live Hotmail can't connect to the other mail server, you must contact your other email provider to verify that the POP settings are correct.
After you verify the settings, click Next.
Select the option you want for your unread messages, and then click Save.
With some email providers, you might be able to forward email to your Windows Live Hotmail account. Not all email providers support this feature. For more information about how to forward email, see the Help documentation for your other email provider.
Go to Windows Live Hotmail.
You might need to sign in with your Windows Live ID.
Create a folder to sort the messages into, if you haven't already done so.
Under Customize your mail, click Manage Rules.
Click New.
Under Step 1:
In the first options box, click To or CC lines.
In the second options box, click contains.
In the text box, type the appropriate email address.
Under Step 2, select the folder that you want to sort the messages into.
Click Save.
Messages that are sent directly to the address of your other email account will be added to this folder. However, if you've added that address to a mailing list, messages sent to the entire mailing list will not be added to this folder.
You can add up to four POP3 accounts to your Windows Live Hotmail account.
If you're using a free Hotmail account, the maximum size of an email message that you can download is 10 MB. If you're using a paid Hotmail account, you can download messages that are up to 35 MB in size.
You can download up to 50 messages automatically at one time, every 30 minutes. If you have more than 50 messages to download, they're included in the next automatic refresh.
