What does it mean if I'm signed in to multiple places?

If you sign in to Windows Live Messenger on your computer and you're already signed in to Messenger somewhere else, a notification shows you all of the locations where you're signed in. All of your IM conversations can be seen at those locations.

If you want to sign out of a specific location, you can do that on your computer or on the web.

To sign out on a specific location from your computer

  1. Open Windows Live Messenger by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Messenger, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Messenger.
  2. Sign in with your Windows Live ID. If you're already signed in, a notification shows the locations where you're signed in.

  3. Click your name and then select the location where you want to sign out.

To sign out on a specific location from the web

  1. Go to your Windows Live profile.

You might need to sign in with your Windows Live ID. If you're already signed in, a notification shows the locations where you're signed in.

  2. Point to your name in the upper–right corner, and then click the location where you want to sign out.
