Print a picture

There are several ways to print a picture in Windows. Let’s look at a couple of common ones.

To print from Windows Photo Viewer

Windows Photo Viewer provides a great way to print photos. When you open photos in the desktop, they open in Photo Viewer unless you choose a different app for opening photos.

  7. You'll see a preview of your pictures in the Print Pictures dialog box. Depending on the number of pictures you're printing, you might use more than one sheet of paper.

To print pictures from other apps

Windows 8 and Windows RT have a lot of flexibility. You can download your favorite apps (like a photo viewer, editor, or newspaper app) and print from them directly. If your app can print photos, you'll see a printer in the list of devices for that app. For more details, check the app info.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)

  2. Enter the name of the app in the search box, tap or click Apps, and then, in the search results, tap or click the name of the app.

  3. Select the photos you want to print.

  4. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Devices. (If you’re using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Devices).

  5. Choose a printer from the list. If you don’t see the printer you want to use, click More.

    Note

    Note

    • If you can't find the printer you want, you can add it. For more info, see Install a printer.

  6. You’ll see a preview of what you're printing, along with the number of copies and the page orientation on the preview pane.

  7. To see what else you can do, tap or click More settings.

  8. When you’re happy with the settings, tap or click Print.

A typical choice of settings in More settings includes three sections: Page layout, paper and quality, and output options. In these sections, you’ll have choices such as page orientation, and whether to print on one or two sides of the paper. The options you see in the More settings section are made available by the printer manufacturer, so depending on the type of printer you have, your choices might be different.
