Installation error 0x80070643 or 0x800706d9: You need to turn on Windows Firewall

If you tried to install Windows Essentials, but received error code 0x800706d9 or 0x80070643, you may need to turn on Windows Firewall. Windows Firewall is a program included with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 that monitors all of the data coming into and going out of your computer. Some programs included in Windows Essentials can only be installed if Windows Firewall is turned on.

To turn on Windows Firewall

1. Click the Start button . In the search box, type Windows Firewall, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Firewall.

2. In the navigation pane, click Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

3. For each group of settings shown, select Turn on Windows Firewall, and then click OK.

4. Try again to download and install the programs you want from Windows Essentials.
