How do I start a group chat in Messenger?

If your group has the group conversation feature turned on, you can chat with other members using Windows Live Messenger.

To start a group conversation in Messenger

  1. Open Messenger by clicking the Start button Start button. In the search box, type Messenger, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Messenger.
  2. Sign in with your Windows Live ID.

  3. Your groups are shown in the Groups category, and you can see any members that are available to chat.

  4. Click the name of the group and enter your message in the conversation window that opens.

To turn off group conversations

  1. Go to Windows Live Groups.

    You might need to sign in with your Windows Live ID.

  2. Click View your groups.

  3. Click a group, click Options, and then click Group conversations.

  4. Click Turn off group conversations.

Note

  • Only owners and co–owners can turn off group conversations. Once you turn it off for a group, you can't turn it back on.

  • Group conversations are only available for groups of up to 40 people.
