How can I make a custom setting and use it to save a movie in Movie Maker?

Windows Live Movie Maker already has many built-in settings that you can choose from when you're ready to save your movie. But you can also save your movie with a custom setting you create. This lets you save your movie at a quality level and size that meets your specific needs.

To create a custom setting in Movie Maker

  1. Open Windows Live Movie Maker by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Movie Maker, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Movie Maker.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Add group, click Add videos and photos.

  3. In the Add Videos and Photos dialog box, open the folder that contains the photos or videos that you want to add, select the video files and photos, and then click Open.

    To select multiple photos and videos, press and hold the Ctrl key, and then click each photo and video you want.

  4. After you're done editing, on the Home tab, in the Sharing group, click Save movie, and then click Create custom setting.

  5. To create a new custom setting that's based on an existing setting, click the Setting list, and then choose an existing setting.

  6. In the Name box, type a name for the new custom setting.

    This is the custom setting name that will appear in Movie Maker.

  7. In the Video settings area, do the following:

    • In the Width and Height boxes, enter the video display size you want (in pixels).

    • In the Bit rate box, enter the bit rate (in kbps) for your setting.

    • In the Frame rate box, enter the number of frames per second for your setting.

  8. In the Audio format list, click the audio settings you want to use.

  9. Click Save.

  10. In the Save Custom Setting dialog box, type a file name for the new setting in the File name box, and then click Save.

  11. In the Create Custom Setting dialog box, click Close.

To save a movie using a custom setting

  1. Open Windows Live Movie Maker by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Movie Maker, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Movie Maker.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Add group, click Add videos and photos.

  3. In the Add Videos and Photos dialog box, open the folder that contains the photos or videos that you want to add, select the video files and photos, and then click Open.

    To select multiple photos and videos, press and hold the Ctrl key, and then click each photo and video you want.

  4. After you're done editing, on the Home tab, in the Sharing group, click Save movie, and then click a custom setting in the Custom settings category.

  5. In the File name box, type a file name for your movie, and then click Save.

  6. Click Play to play your saved movie in your default media player.
