Can I send and receive vCard contacts?

Yes, you can send and receive contacts in the commonly used vCard file format. When you receive a vCard contact, you can import the file into your Contacts folder. The Import command can convert vCard files to the .contact file format used in this version of Windows.

You can also send someone a contact in the vCard format by using the Export command in Windows Contacts, which converts all your contacts to this format. Then you can send them to people who are using an earlier version of Windows or who are using a different operating system, allowing them to view your contacts.

To convert just one contact at a time to the vCard format and send it to someone, right-click the contact and then click Send Contact. This will create a new message in your default e‑mail program with the contact attached.

For more information, see Import, export, or change the format for contacts.

Note

Note

When you convert a contact to the vCard format, it will lose any picture you added and some or all information in the Family and Notes tabs. Likewise, when you import a vCard into the Contacts folder, you are able to store additional information in the contact, such as a picture.
