Handwriting personalization on a Tablet PC
Using handwriting recognition personalization increases the likelihood that your handwriting will be recognized correctly in Tablet PC Input Panel and in programs for the Tablet PC that use handwriting recognition.
Handwriting personalization includes:
-
The Handwriting recognition personalization tool. You can improve your handwriting recognition results by providing samples of your handwriting to train the handwriting recognizer about how you write.
-
Automatic learning. By opting-in to automatic learning for personalization, you allow the recognizer to gather information about the words that you use and how you write them.

If you can identify which characters or words cause the most recognition errors, use the following tables to help you decide which part of the Handwriting recognition personalization tool to start with to target that type of error. You can complete each wizard more than once, and the more handwriting samples you provide, the better the potential results.

If the word or phrase that you're trying to target is longer than the allowable 20 characters on the Enter the character or word you want to target page, you can break it into several parts. For example, "http://www.contoso.com" is too long but you can break it into "http://" "www." "contoso" and ".com" and target each part for the same results.

Letters, numbers, and symbols are incorrectly recognized as other characters that have a similar shape, such as the letter l and the number 1, or the uppercase S and lowercase s.

If the character set is not in the list, start with Character or word you specify instead.

Automatic learning
Automatic learning collects data about the words you use and how you write them. If you turn on automatic learning, it enables the handwriting recognizer to learn your handwriting style and vocabulary.
Automatic learning for both your handwriting style and your vocabulary might not be available for all languages that include handwriting personalization. To find out which languages currently use automatic learning for handwriting style or vocabulary, see Personalize handwriting recognition for another language.
Any data collected by automatic learning is stored in your user profile and is not sent to Microsoft. To learn about what data is stored and how it is used, go to the Handwriting Recognition Personalization section of our privacy statement.
