Manage your accessibility programs with Utility Manager

Utility Manager is an accessibility utility that enables users to check the status of accessibility programs (Microsoft Magnifier, Narrator, On-Screen Keyboard) and to start or stop them. Here's how to open Utility Manager and how to set different start options for accessibility programs:

To manage accessibility options using your mouse

  1. Using your keyboard, press the Windows logo key+U.

    • While you can open Utility Manager from the Start menu with your mouse, you will have limited program management capabilities.

  2. In the Utility Manager dialog box, you'll see a choice of accessibility programs. When you click one, you can choose several start options for your program:

    • Start automatically when I log in

    • Start automatically when I lock my desktop

    • Start automatically when Utility Manager starts

  3. When you are done making your choices, click OK.

    • You can go back and cancel your automatic starts by clearing the check boxes.

To manage accessibility options using your keyboard

  1. Using your keyboard, press the Windows logo key+U.

  2. Move to the Utility Manager dialog box by pressing Alt+Tab.

  3. In the Utility Manager dialog box, you'll see a choice of accessibility programs. Choose one by pressing the Up Arrow or Down Arrow keys. Under Options for the accessibility utility you have selected, choose Start by pressing Alt+A or Stop by pressing Alt+O.

  4. For each accessibility utility, you can choose several start options:

    • To Start automatically when I log in, press Alt+L.

    • To Start automatically when I lock my desktop, press Alt+D.

    • To Start automatically when Utility Manager starts, press Alt+U.

  5. When you are done making your choices, press Enter.
