Optimize your visual display to make your computer easier to read

If you have difficulty seeing things on screen, you can quickly set vision-related options using the Accessibility Wizard. Options include scrollbar and window border size, desktop icons, high-contrast schemes, size and color of the mouse cursor, and the cursor width and blink rate.

To optimize your display using your mouse

  1. Click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Accessibility, and then click Accessibility Wizard.

  2. In the Welcome to Accessibility Wizard dialog box, click Next.

  3. In the Text Size dialog box, select the smallest text you can read, and then click Next.

  4. In the Display Settings dialog box, select the Change the font size check box. If you want to use Microsoft Magnifier, select the Use Microsoft Magnifier check box. Click Next.

  5. In the Set Wizard Options dialog box, select the I am blind or have difficulty seeing things on screen check box. Click Next to continue through the wizard.

  6. In the Completing the Accessibility Wizard dialog box, click Finish to save your changes and exit the wizard. To cancel your changes, click Cancel, and then click No. To move back to change earlier screens, click the Back button.

To optimize your display using your keyboard

  1. Display the Start menu by pressing Ctrl+Esc (or the Windows logo key). Press R, type accwiz, and then press Enter.

  2. In the Welcome to the Accessibility Wizard dialog box, press N for Next.

  3. In the Text Size dialog box, select the smallest text you can read by using the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys. Press N.

  4. In the Display Settings dialog box, press C to select the Change the font size check box. If you want to use Microsoft Magnifier, press U. Press N.

  5. In the Set Wizard Options dialog box, press U to select the I am blind or have difficulty seeing things on screen check box. Press N.

  6. In the Completing the Accessibility Wizard dialog box, press Enter to save your changes and exit the wizard. To cancel your changes, use Tab to move to the Cancel button and press Enter. Press Tab to select No, and then press Enter. To move back to earlier screens, press B.
