Change the date a picture was taken

Digital cameras record the date and time that pictures are taken. When you transfer the pictures from your camera to your computer, the date and time are saved as a part of the information stored with each picture.

Unfortunately, this information isn't always accurate. For example, the camera might be set to the wrong date and time. If you scan pictures, the information will show the date the pictures were scanned rather than when they were taken. The good news is that you can fix these issues on your computer by adding the correct date information.

  1. Open the Pictures library by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Pictures.

  2. Open the folder that has the picture you want to change, and then click the picture.

To select several pictures, press and hold the Ctrl key, and then click each picture that you want to change.

  3. In the details pane at the bottom of the window, click next to Date taken, click the Calendar button Picture of the Calendar button, and then click the correct date on the calendar.
