Looking for Windows Messenger?
You might have noticed that Windows Messenger isn't included in Windows 7. You can still send and receive instant messages if you install an instant messaging program from another company or use Windows Live Messenger. You can download and install Windows Live Messenger
— a part of Windows Live Essentials — for free.

You can use Windows Live Messenger to chat with your friends and more:
-
Go beyond instant messages. Use Windows Live Messenger to play games, share pictures, and send text messages.
-
Keep your closest friends on top. Put friends in your favorites and they'll always stay at the top of your Windows Live Messenger main window, making it easier for you to see when they're online and available to chat. You can even create groups with your friends in Windows Live Messenger and have group conversations with up to 20 people at once.
-
Express yourself. Personalize Windows Live Messenger by creating dynamic display pictures that change with your mood, showing people what music you're listening to, and customizing what other people see in their conversation window when they're chatting with you.
-
See your conversations. If you have a webcam, you can start video conversations with friends or make phone calls right from your computer.
-
Stay up to date. Whether it's creating a photo album, posting a blog entry, or making new friends, the "What's new" list in Windows Live Messenger automatically updates to show what you and your friends have been doing.
