Update Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer is a web browser included with Windows, so updates for it are included when you install Windows updates. To enhance the security of your browsing experience and to help fix or prevent problems with Internet Explorer, make sure that you install all available updates for Internet Explorer.

  1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.

  2. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

  3. If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or that optional updates are available, click either message to view and select the updates to install.

  4. Make sure the Internet Explorer updates that you want are selected, click OK, and then click Install updates. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.


  • You can also check for updates when you have Internet Explorer open by clicking the Safety button, and then clicking Windows Update.
