Protect your PC

Using a public network

Stay private on public networks

If you get on the Internet in a hotel, airport, or other public place, someone with the right tools could see everything that you do, including the websites you visit, the documents you work on, and the user names and passwords that you use.

Windows can help you protect your PC and your data while you’re on a public network. Here's what to do:

  • Right after you connect to a public network, choose No, don’t turn on sharing or connect to devices.

This helps prevent your PC from being visible to other people on the network, so you stay safer.
