Here are the basics about using the OneDrive mobile apps. Download the app for your device

OneDrive for Android

Add photos or videos

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Choose where you want to upload the pictures to, tap the Upload button and then tap Upload photos and videos.

  3. Choose the files you want to upload and tap UPLOAD.

Share a file

  1. In the OneDrive app, press and hold the file or folder you want to share and tap the Share button.

  2. Tap View only or View and edit depending on whether you want people to be able to edit the files or folders you're sharing with them.

  3. Tap an option on the screen to decide how you want to share the link to the files or folders you're sharing.

Automatically upload photos you take to OneDrive

When you first sign in to OneDrive, you'll be asked if you'd like to automatically upload photos you take on your phone to OneDrive. Tap Turn on to turn on automatic upload. You can also turn this on from Settings. Here's how:

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Open Settings and tap Camera backup.

  3. Set Camera backup to ON.

Notes

  • Camera backup is available only on devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or later.

  • All photos will be uploaded at their original sizes when you're on a Wi‑Fi network. If you want to use your mobile network to automatically upload photos, open the OneDrive app, open Settings, tap Camera backup, and select Use mobile network.

Change how files are sorted

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Open the folder you want to sort, and then tap the Sort button. You can sort by name, date, or size.

Download multiple files to your device

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Open the folder that has the files you want to download.

  3. Tap the download button, then select the files that you want to download.

  4. Select the location where you want to save the downloaded files.

Change the Microsoft account you use for OneDrive

In the OneDrive app, open Settings, tap Sign out, then sign back in with the account you want to use.

See how much storage space you have

In the OneDrive app, open Settings to see your total storage and space available.

Add a photo or video

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Tap the More button next to the name of the app.

  3. Tap Add Items, and then choose from the options you see—you can create a folder, take a photo or video, or choose to upload an existing photo or video.

Share files and folders

You can share files and folders using the OneDrive app.

To share a file

  1. Tap the file you want to share and tap the share button.

  2. Choose if you want to send the link in email or copy the link to clipboard and then decide if you want people to only be able to view the file or edit it also.

  3. If you chose to send the link via email, follow the instructions on the screen to share the file. If you chose to copy the link to clipboard, you can now paste it in an email, text, instant message, or social network to share it with someone.

To share a folder

  1. Tap the folder you want to share and then tap the More button next to the name of the app.

  2. Tap Sharing and Permissions and choose if you want to send the link in email or copy the link to clipboard. After that, choose if you want people to only be able to view the file or edit it also.

  3. If you chose to send the link via email, follow the instructions on the screen to share the file. If you chose to copy the link to clipboard, you can now paste it in an email, text, instant message, or social network to share it with someone.

Automatically save photos you take to OneDrive

When you first sign in to OneDrive, you'll be asked if you'd like to automatically upload photos you take on your phone to OneDrive. Tap OK to turn on automatic upload. You can also turn this on from Settings. Here's how:

  1. In the OneDrive app, tap Settings, and then tap Camera Backup.

  2. Turn on Camera Backup to automatically upload photos to OneDrive.

    To see the uploaded photos, tap Backup.

Note

  • To check at what size your photos are being uploaded, tap Settings, and then tap Camera Backup. If Resize Photos is turned off, your photos are being uploaded at their original size. If you're uploading photos in original size, you might want to turn off Use Mobile Network—this means that your photos will only be uploaded when you're connected to a Wi‑Fi network.

Change the Microsoft account you use for OneDrive

In the OneDrive app, tap Settings and then tap Sign Out. Sign back in with the account you want to use.

In the OneDrive app, go to Settings to see your total storage and space available.

Add a single photo or video

  1. Find a photo or video you want to upload. (To add a photo from an online album, you'll need to save it to your phone first. To do this, select the photo in the Photos app, tap "" (more), tap save to phone, and then open the photo again from the Saved Pictures album.)

  2. Tap the photo or video, tap "" (more), and then tap save to SkyDrive (now called OneDrive).

  3. Add a caption if you want and then tap upload.

    You'll find these photos in the mobile uploads folder in the OneDrive mobile app or in the Mobile uploads from SkyDrive album in Photos.

Add multiple photos

  1. Open the Photos app.

  2. Tap camera roll.

  3. Tap select. This puts a frame around the photos that you can select.

  4. Tap photos to select them.

  5. Tap "" (more), and then tap save to SkyDrive (now called OneDrive).

Share a file

  1. In the OneDrive app, press and hold the file you want to share and tap share.

  2. Choose if you want to send the link in email or copy the link to clipboard and then decide if you want people to only be able to view the file or edit it also.

  3. If you chose to send the link via email, follow the instructions on the screen to share the file. If you chose to copy the link to clipboard, you can now paste it in an email, text, instant message, or social network to share it with someone.

Automatically save photos you take to OneDrive

  1. Open the Photos app.

  2. Tap "" (more), and then tap settings.

  3. Under Auto upload, tap SkyDrive (now called OneDrive).

  4. Under Photos or Videos, tap Good quality for lower resolution or Best quality for full resolution.

Notes

  • If you choose Best quality, your photos and videos will only be uploaded when you're connected to a Wi‑Fi network. Only photos that are 10 megapixels or smaller will be uploaded. To get larger photos off your phone, you’ll need to use File Explorer on a PC or the Windows Phone app for Mac on a Mac. For more info about how to do this, see Sync photos and videos using my computer.

  • If you choose Good quality, your photos or videos may be uploaded to OneDrive using your cellular data plan (if you connect to a Wi‑Fi network, they'll be uploaded over Wi‑Fi).

Add a photo or video

  1. On your phone, find a photo or video you want to upload. To share a picture from an online album, you'll need to save it to your phone first. To do that, tap the picture, tap "" (more), tap save to phone, and then open it again from the Saved Pictures album.

  2. Press and hold the photo or video, tap share… and then tap SkyDrive (now called OneDrive).

  3. Add a caption if you want and then tap upload.

    Your photos will be uploaded at full resolution. To see these uploaded photos, in the OneDrive mobile app, tap Documents and then tap mobile uploads.

Automatically save photos you take to OneDrive

  1. In the App list, tap Settings.

  2. Flick left to applications and then tap pictures + camera.

  3. Turn on Automatically upload to SkyDrive (now called OneDrive).

Note

  • You won't be able to upload pictures automatically to OneDrive if your phone has only 256 MB of RAM. Contact your phone manufacturer for more info.

  • Pictures are uploaded at low resolution. To back up your pictures at full resolution, use the Zune software on your PC. To learn more, see Sync music, pictures, and videos. If you want to upload your pictures at full resolution, follow the steps described in "Add a photo or video".
