Sometimes photos need a little tweak so that they show the moment as you remember it—making the sky a brighter blue or removing red eyes. The Photos app will make automatic corrections for you, or you can experiment with lighting and color adjustments, effects, and touch ups, plus cropping and rotating. Here are some options to get you started:
Let the app make the adjustments for you.
Make basic fixes, such as remove red eye and retouch blemishes.
Adjust the light, such as changing brightness, contrast, highlights, and shadows.
Adjust the color, such as changing temperature, tint, and saturation. You can also pick a color and use Color enhance to adjust that color everywhere in the photo.
Add effects, such as darken or lighten the corners with Vignette and change the focus area with Selective focus.
Rotate your photos.
Crop your photos. You can chose from a list of options or adjust the size manually.
These steps will get you started and help you save your changes. Once you start editing, you can experiment with different adjustments and effects. For a full description of how to use each feature, see Edit photos and videos.
Open a photo.
Tap or click Edit.
Tap or click a category on a left, and then tap or click an editing option on the right.
Make your edits. See the following sections for more details on each option.
If you want to zoom in or out in the photo, use the + and - in the lower right or pinch and stretch fingers on the screen.
Swipe up from the bottom edge or right-click to use other editing options, which might include:
(press and hold or click and hold to see the original photo)
When you’re done making changes, swipe in from the bottom edge or right-click, and then save your photo. You can save a copy or update the original photo. (You might only see one of these options, depending on the file's type and permission settings.)
If you don't see the Redo and View original options, you don't have the latest update to Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1. For more info, see Install the latest Windows 8.1 Update.
