Lining up two PCs at their touchmarks

Tap to share with the person next to you

If you're sitting next to someone and want to share something like photos or your contact info, you might think to send it in an email or text. Instead, you can use Tap and Do to tap your PC against theirs and start sharing. You can also use Tap and Do to invite them into a game you're playing or the app you're using.

To use Tap and Do, both you and the other person need a Windows 8 or Windows RT PC with a proximity touchmark The Tap and Do touchmark icon on it. The touchmark could be on the back of the PC.

Here's how it works.

  • Open what you want to share, such as photos, documents, or a game.

  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Devices. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Devices.)

  • Choose Tap and send.

  • Line up the touchmarks The Tap and Do touchmark icon on each PC, and lightly tap the two PCs against each other.

When you hear the chime, you don’t have to hold the devices together any longer. The other person will get a message, and when they accept it, sharing begins.

Note

Note

  • If the other person doesn't have the app you're sharing, they'll be asked if they want to get the app from the Windows Store.
