An easy way to keep track of music on your computer is to use the Music library. By default, the Music library shows all the music located in the My Music folder, but you can include other folders in your Music library, too. For more information, see Include folders in a library.
To listen to music in Windows, you need a program designed for playing music files. If your computer didn’t come with such a program, you'll need to install one before you can listen to music on your computer.
Open the Music library by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Music.
Play a music file in the default program for the file's type
Double-click the music file.
Play a music file in a different program
Right-click the music file, point to Open with, and then click the program that you want to use.
Play all the music files in a folder window
In the toolbar, click Play all.
Arrange your music by album, artist, genre, or another property
In the library pane (above the file list), click an item in the Arrange by list.
In the Arrange by list, click Clear changes.
Find a music file by file name or property
In the search box, type the file name or property. You can type the entire name, or just the first few letters.
For information about adding properties to a file, see Change the properties for a file.
Find music by album
Click in the search box, click Album, and then click an album to view the songs in that album.
Return to the Music library after searching
Find music by artist
Click in the search box, click Artists, and then click an artist name to view all songs by that artist.
Find music by genre
Click in the search box, click Genre, and then click a genre name to view all songs in that genre.
Find music by length
Click in the search box, click Length, and then click a length range to view all songs in that range.
You can change the items that appear in your Music library by including folders. This is convenient if you store some music files in a location other than the My Music or Public Music folders.
In the library pane (above the file list), next to Includes, click Locations.
In the Music Library Locations dialog box, click Add.
Click the folder or drive containing music files, click Include folder, and then click OK.
