Install Internet Explorer 11

Internet Explorer comes with your Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 PC—you don't need to download or install any additional software. Make sure you've set Internet Explorer as your default browser and then learn the basics of how to use your new browser.

Install new versions automatically

If you've agreed to receive automatic upgrades to Internet Explorer, the latest version of the browser for your operating system will be installed by Windows Update when it's available. Learn more about your version of Internet Explorer and automatic upgrades.

Turn off Internet Explorer

Because Internet Explorer is a Windows feature, you can't uninstall it, but you can turn it off. Here's how:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)

  2. Enter Windows features in the search box, tap or click Settings, and then tap or click Turn Windows features on or off.

  3. In the Windows Features dialog box, clear the Internet Explorer 11 check box.
