Storage plan subscription and billing questions

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about buying a OneDrive storage plan.

Show all

Which storage plans are available and how much do they cost?

100 GB and 200 GB plans are available. (20 and 50 GB plans are no longer available for purchase, but if you already have one, you can continue using it.) All plans are billed monthly from the day you buy the subscription. To see the plan pricing in your country or region, go to the OneDrive Plans page. To buy a storage plan in a different country or region, see Storage plans by country/region.

I'm having a problem redeeming the code I received for more storage

Make sure you entered the code correctly. It has 25 digits. If you entered the code correctly and it still doesn't work, wait a few minutes and then try again.

I bought an annual storage plan. What happens when it changes to monthly?

We've lowered the price of storage plans and changed all annual plans to monthly. A refund for the remaining days on your annual plan will be credited to your original payment method. Even if that payment method isn't active, the bank will still issue your refund. Storage that comes with Office or Windows will continue to apply on an annual basis.

Note

  • You can't prepay for multiple months, but monthly plans renew automatically, so you don't need to worry about remembering to pay each month.

When will my subscription expire?

Subscriptions don't expire. They're automatically renewed each month unless you cancel them. To see when your subscription will be renewed or expire if you canceled it, go to Storage on the OneDrive website, and then tap or click Manage next to your storage plan to go to the Microsoft account site.

Why isn’t my storage plan showing up in OneDrive?

If your storage plan doesn’t appear in OneDrive, go to the Storage page, and then tap or click Plans in the left pane.

How do I update the billing information used with my subscription?

  1. Go to Storage on the OneDrive website.

  2. Tap or click Manage next to your storage plan to go to the Microsoft account site.

  3. To change your personal info, tap or click profile, and then tap or click edit profile.

To edit your payment method, tap or click subscriptions, tap or click manage above your OneDrive subscription, choose change payment option, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Note

  • When your storage plan is automatically renewed, the new payment method and info will be used.

Why do I still have extra storage available if I’ve canceled my subscription?

After you cancel a storage subscription, the storage is available to you until the subscription's expiration date. If you exceed your remaining storage space when the subscription expires, you'll be able to view, share, and download files on your OneDrive, but you won't be able to upload files until you buy more storage or free up space.

How can I switch to a smaller storage plan?

If you buy a storage plan that is larger than you need, follow the steps in the next section to cancel the subscription. Then wait until it expires and select a plan with less storage. Make sure that the storage you're currently using is less than the new plan's storage limit before you switch to the new plan.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions can't be canceled, but you can cancel auto-renewal:

  1. Go to Storage on the OneDrive website.

  2. Tap or click Manage next to your storage plan to go to the Microsoft account site.

  3. Tap or click subscriptions.

  4. Tap or click manage above your OneDrive subscription.

  5. Choose cancel subscription, and then tap or click next.

  6. Tap or click confirm cancellation.

    Notes

    • When you cancel your subscription, your storage plan will be available until its expiration date. After your plan expires, your storage will return to the OneDrive free plan.

    • In most cases, OneDrive subscriptions are non-refundable except where applicable by law.

How do I renew my subscription?

You don't have to do anything. OneDrive storage plans are automatically renewed.

What happens if I switch to a bigger storage plan?

If you switch to a bigger plan, you'll be charged the difference between the cost of the new plan and the time remaining on your existing plan. Your subscription renewal date will be reset to the date that you bought the bigger storage plan.

How do I change my payment method?

Note: To buy a bigger storage plan using a different payment method, make sure you change your payment method first, and then select the new storage plan.

To change your payment method:

  1. Go to Storage on the OneDrive website.

  2. Tap or click Manage next to your storage plan to go to the Microsoft account site.

  3. Tap or click subscriptions, tap or click manage above your OneDrive subscription, choose change payment option, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

What do I do if my payment method is declined or invalid?

Typically, when a payment method is declined, it's because there’s a problem with your billing info, credit card, or other payment method. To verify that your billing info is accurate, or to change your payment method, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Storage on the OneDrive website.

  2. Tap or click Manage next to your storage plan to go to the Microsoft account site.

  3. Tap or click payment options, and then select the payment option you use for your OneDrive subscription plan.

  4. If you need to change the info, tap or click edit.

To use a different payment method, tap or click subscriptions, tap or click manage above your OneDrive subscription, choose change payment option, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Note

  • If your payment info is accurate and you still receive this error, contact your bank for more info.
