The Scan app helps you quickly and easily scan pictures and documents and save them to your PC in different file formats—such as JPEG, Bitmap, and PNG. You can use wired or wireless scanners, including scanners that are connected to your network.
In most cases, when you connect a scanner to your PC, Windows will automatically install the scanner.
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Tap or click PC and devices, and then tap or click Devices.
If the scanner is installed, it will appear under Printers or Other devices.
If you have a wireless scanner that wasn't installed, see Why isn't Windows finding my Bluetooth or other wireless device? for troubleshooting info. If you have a wired scanner, see What if a wired device isn't installed properly?
If you tried the previous steps and the scanner still isn't installed, you can install it manually. Here's how:
Connect the scanner to your PC or network router, and then plug in the scanner and turn it on.
If you have a wireless scanner that hasn't been added to your network, read the instructions that came with the scanner to learn how to add it.
Install the scanner driver, provided by the scanner's manufacturer. The driver might be included on a disc that came with the scanner or you might need to download it from the manufacturer’s website.
Make sure you install the correct driver for the scanner and the version of Windows you’re using.
Tap or click PC and devices and then tap or click Add a device.
In the list that appears, tap or click the name of your scanner.
The scanner appears under Printers or Other devices.
Open the Scan app.
Do one of the following:
Place the item you want to scan face down on the scanner's flatbed and close the cover.
Place the item you want to scan in the scanner's document feeder.
Make sure that Source is set to scan from the location you prefer.
Under File type, select the type of file you want the scan to be saved as.
Tap or click Show more to show more scanning options, and make any necessary changes.
Under Save file to, browse to the location where you want to save the scan. By default, scans are saved in a Scans folder within Pictures.
If you have a flatbed scanner, tap or click Preview. When the preview appears, drag the selection handles to crop the scan to the area you want, and then tap or click Scan.
If you have a document feeder, tap or click Scan.
To see the scanned file, tap or click View.
