Importing and editing videos

Move your videos from your camera or phone for easier editing and sharing. Windows 8.1 offers basic video editing options. Use Movie Moments for fun, quick changes to short videos.

If you're interested in making more advanced edits or working with longer videos, search the Windows Store on your PC for other video editing apps or download Movie Maker (not available for Windows RT 8.1).

Importing videos

  1. Connect a camera, phone or external drive to your PC.

  2. From the Start screen, open the Photos app.

  3. Swipe in from the bottom edge to see the application commands.
    (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the application.)

  4. Tap or click Import.

  5. Tap or click the device you want to import from.

  6. Swipe down on or click each photo and video you want to import, or tap or click Select all.

  7. Tap or click Import.

The photos and videos are saved in the Pictures folder in a subfolder named with the date (for example, 2013-09-10).

Trimming videos

  1. Using the Photos, Camera or OneDrive app, open the video you want to shorten.

  2. Swipe in from the bottom edge to see the application commands.
    (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the application.)

  3. Tap or click Trim, then move the handles at the left and right ends of the timeline to new start and end points.

Deleting videos

  1. Using the Photos, Camera or OneDrive app, select the video you want to delete. In the Photos and OneDrive apps, you can select multiple videos or all files in a folder.

  2. If you can't see the app commands, swipe up from the bottom edge or right-click.

  3. Tap or click Delete.
