How do I close an app?

Applications that you install from the Windows Store don't slow down your PC, so you don't need to close them. When you're not using an application, Windows will leave it running in the background and then close it eventually if you aren't using it. But if you really want to close an application, here’s how:

If you’re using a mouse, click the top of the app and drag it to the bottom of the screen.

If you’re using touch, drag the app to the bottom of the screen.

Watch a video about how to close an app. (To view captions in your language, tap or click the Closed captioning button Closed Captioning button.)

It's still a good idea to close desktop applications when you've finished using them, particularly before shutting down your PC.
