Movie Moments helps you turn your videos into short films you’ll love to share. You can trim scenes to keep only your favourite parts, highlight key moments with stylish captions, and add music to set the mood. Then, share the finished film without leaving the app.
This app is designed for making quick, fun changes to short videos. The final films are all 60 seconds long or less. If you're interested in making more advanced edits or working with longer videos, search the Windows Store on your PC for other video editing apps or go here to download Movie Maker. Movie Moments is available for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1. Movie Maker is not available for Windows RT 8.1.
From the Start screen, open the
Windows Store. Make sure that you're connected to the Internet and that you're signed in using a Microsoft accounts.
Enter Movie Moments in the search box in the top-right corner of the Store.
Tap or click Movie Moments in the results.
Tap or click Install.
Enter Movie Moments in the search field.
Tap or click Movie Moments.
If you want a quicker way to open Movie Moments, you can pin it to Start. Instead of tapping or clicking Movie Moments in the last step, swipe down on or right-click it. Then tap or click Pin to Start. Now when you want to open it, you can go to Start and tap or click the Movie Moments tile.
From the Start screen, open Movie Moments.
Pick a video or take a new one. If you have videos in your Pictures folder, they'll appear on this page.
You can do any of these things when making your film:
Delete scenes: Move the handles to where you want the film to start and stop. Finished films need to be 60 seconds or less.
Add captions and a title:
Tap or click the Caption button, enter your text, then tap or click Done. You can select a word or phrase to emphasise it and freeze that frame.
Change the style of the title and captions:
Tap or click the Caption button, tap or click Styles, then pick the style for your film.
Tap or click Music, then choose a song.
Tap or click Preview. While previewing your film, you'll see all of the effects and hear the soundtrack.
Do any of the following:
Make changes: Tap or click Edit, make the changes, then preview it again.
Save your film:
Tap or click Save. It’s saved in the same folder as the original video.
Post or email your film
Tap or click Share.
Start a new film:
Swipe up from the bottom edge or right-click, then tap or click New movie.
Check the Windows Store on your PC for more apps that share movies.
The original video can be up to 20 minutes long. A finished movie needs to be between 1 and 60 seconds long.
Keep the final film to 60 seconds or less by removing scenes from the beginning, middle or end.
Move the handles at the left and right ends of the time line to the new start and end points you want.
Move the playhead to the end of a section you want to keep. The playhead is the circle underneath the Caption button.
Swipe in from the bottom edge to see the application commands.(If you're using a mouse, right-click within the application.)
Do one of the following:
If the playhead is in an active section, tap or click Split.
If the playhead is outside of an active section, tap or click Create section.
Adjust the handles as needed.
The final film will include what’s in the active sections.
Drag the handle at the end of one section past the start of the next section.
Tap or click the Caption button.
Tap or click Style. (If you don't see it, tap or click the More button.) The new style applies to the title and captions for the entire film, not just the current caption.
Tap or click Done.
Tap or click Preview to see your changes.
For some styles, the font isn't available in all languages. When that happens, the style uses a different font.
Tap or click that caption’s dot. A thumbnail of the caption appears.
Tap or click the thumbnail.
Edit the caption, then tap or click Done.
Remove the caption by tapping or clicking Remove caption. (If you don't see the Remove caption button, tap or click the More button.)
When you're ready to see your changes, tap or click Preview.
Tap or click Music.
(Optional) You can get songs from Movie Moments by tapping or clicking Download recommended songs.
Pick one of the recommended songs, or tap or click Pick a song from my collection and select one of your own songs.
When you want to hear the music with your film, tap or click Preview.
Adjusting where the song starts isn’t supported at this time.
Tap or click Music.
Tap or click Mute audio from video.
Tap or click in the app to dismiss the Music options.
To see your changes, tap or click Preview. Then you’ll see how the effects look for your titles and captions and hear the music play with your film.
If you want to change something while you're previewing the film, tap or click Edit, make your changes, then tap or click Preview again.
When you open the app, you can:
Tap or click a video. The options shown here are videos in your Pictures folder.
Tap or click Pick a video to browse for an existing video.
Tap or click Take a video to record a video with your webcam.
When you’re previewing a film, you can swipe up from the bottom edge or right-click, then tap or click New movie. This takes you to where you can pick a video or record a new one.
While you’re making changes to your video, you can stop working on that and start a new film. Swipe up from the bottom edge or right-click, then tap or click Cancel movie. This takes you to where you can pick a video or record a new one.
If editing, cancel the movie and return to the main page
If previewing, go back to editing
Activate the current item (like tapping or clicking)
Delete all text in the caption field
When focus is on a handle or section, move the handle or section back
When focus is on a handle or section, move the handle or section forward
Shift + left arrow or right arrow
Move back or forward faster
Show other commands available in the app
