How do I add (pin) a specific news source to my Start screen?

The News app lets you add, or pin, news from individual sources featured in the app to your Start screen.

  1. Go to the news source.

  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  3. On the bar at the bottom of the app, tap or click Pin to Start.

  4. Click the Pin to Start button in the pop-up.

How can I customise the News app?

It’s easy to add or remove content to suit your interests, and change the order of sections exactly as you'd like. You can add topics, such as articles about companies, celebrities or issues in the news. You can also add stories from the news sources you trust most, the top news from the best sources chosen by our editors or news from more countries.

  1. From the home screen of the News app, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  2. Tap or click Customise.

  3. Click the + button next to the type of content you'd like to add: Topics, Sources, Editor's Picks or News from more countries.

  4. Drag and drop to reorder sections, or remove a section by tapping or clicking the section's red X button.

Be aware that this feature might not be available in every locale.

How do I track news topics that interest me?

The News app makes it easy to follow stories on topics you choose, based on keywords you select.

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  2. In the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, tap or click Customise.

  3. Tap or click Topics.

  4. Enter the topic you'd like to track. Tap or click Add.

  5. A new section will be added to the News app. By default, it will be added in the last position, but you can drag and drop it anywhere.

Be aware that this feature might not be available in every locale.

How do I remove a news topic?

The News app lets you remove custom topics.

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  2. In the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, tap or click Customise.

  3. Tap or click Topics.

  4. Remove a topic by tapping or clicking the section's red X button.

How do I see news from a specific source?

The News app makes it easy to find content from top news providers.

  1. Scroll through the News app to find the Sources section, or swipe down from the top of the screen (you can also right-click with your mouse), then tap or click Sources.

  2. Browse the sources by category using the tabs on the left. You can also use the menu in the top right to select content from around the world, or use the search box to enter the name of a source.

  3. Tap or click the source's name to see the content.

How do I see news for a specific country?

The News app provides unique content for people in dozens of countries.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  2. Tap or click Sources.

  3. In the tabs on the left-hand side of the screen, click the International News tab to view news for different regions around the world.

  4. Or, use the drop-down menu in the top right to choose specific sources.

How do I read news from featured sources?

The News app includes complete reports from some of the most trusted brands in news.

Option 1

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  2. In the top bar of the app, tap or click any of the news organisations listed in the Featured section.

  1. Swipe through the home screen of the app to the Sources section.

  2. Tap or click any of the news organisations listed.

How do I see news from a wide range of recommended sources?

The News app provides many recommended news sources.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  2. Select Sources.

  3. Swipe through the tiles in categories such as Business and Technology.

  4. Tap or click a source to view its content.

How do I add a source to the News app?

News lets you quickly add your favourite sources directly to your home screen.

  1. Swipe or scroll to the Sources section of the News app.

  2. Tap or click the + button.

  3. Browse by tapping or clicking the tabs to the left, or search for a specific source.

  4. Add sources to your home screen by tapping or clicking the + button next to the source name.

How do I subscribe to an RSS feed in the News app?

Can't find the source you're looking for? The News app lets you follow your RSS feeds.

  1. Scroll to the Sources section of the News app.

  2. Tap or click the + button.

  3. In the search box, enter the RSS URL you would like to subscribe to.

  4. The name of the feed you've entered will be displayed.

  5. Tap or click the + button next to the name of the source.

How do I change the font size of articles?

You can choose from four different font sizes – small, medium, large or extra-large.

  1. Select an article to read.

  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  3. In the bar at the bottom of the app, tap or click the Text Size button and select a size.

How can I use my mouse and keyboard to navigate through the app?

Windows 8 is optimised for touch screens, but you can use all the features with your keyboard and mouse.

  1. Make the top and bottom navigation appear: Right-click with your mouse or enter Windows logo key+Z on your keyboard.

  2. Close the app: Using your mouse, click and hold the app in the centre of the top of the screen. Drag it to the bottom of your screen and release to close it. Or, enter Alt+F4 on your keyboard.

  3. Scroll through content: To see more news, you can use the scroll bar at the bottom of your screen. If you have one, your mouse scroll wheel will also do this. If you're using a keyboard, scroll with the arrow keys.

How do I refresh news content?

The News app automatically refreshes content as you move through the app, but you can also explicitly refresh the content.

  1. Go to a section of the app, such as the home screen of the app.

  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click with your mouse.

  3. Tap or click Refresh.

How do I give feedback about the News app?

Your feedback is important to us, and we are always looking for ways to improve the app. Here's how you can contact us:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen or enter Windows logo key+C on the keyboard.

  2. Tap or click Settings and select About.

  3. Tap or click Feedback.

  4. Enter your feedback in the form, then tap or click Submit.
