Getting help with PC settings

PC settings is organised into categories. Below, you can click a category name on the left to see links to help for that category on the right.

Most of the settings you'll want to change in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 are in PC settings. You'll find things like screen resolution, adding and removing devices, personalising the lock screen, changing the date and time, and adding user accounts.

If you don't see the setting you're looking for in PC settings, it might be in the Settings charm or Control Panel.

To open the Settings charm

  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, then tap Settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the bottom-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, then click Settings.)

To open Control Panel

  • Open Control Panel by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Control Panel in the search box, and then tapping or clicking Control Panel.

For more information about the Settings charm and Control Panel, see Where is Control Panel? You can also contact support to get help if you can't find the settings or info you're looking for.
