Start Disk Cleanup

To free up space on your hard disk, Disk Cleanup finds and then removes temporary files on your computer that you decide you no longer need.

If you have more than one drive or partition on your computer, you will be prompted to choose which drive you want Disk Cleanup to clean.

  • Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Disk Cleanup.

Note

Here's another way to open Disk Cleanup: Click the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the Search box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list of results, click Disk Cleanup.
