Creating or editing a fax cover page


Windows Fax and Scan, included with this version of Windows, comes with four pre-designed cover pages. You can also use the program to create your own custom cover pages.

Why send a cover page?

  • To explain who you are and why you're sending the fax.

  • To prevent people other than your intended recipients from seeing what's in the fax.

  • To indicate the priority of the fax.

To create a cover page with Windows Fax and Scan

  1. Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.
  2. Make sure you're in the Fax view by clicking Fax at the bottom of the left pane.

  3. Click the Tools menu, click Cover Pages, and then click New.

  4. To add commonly used label and text boxes to the cover page, click the Insert menu, and then do one or more of the following:

    • Click Recipient, and then click the type of recipient information that you want the cover page to display.

    • Click Sender, and then click the type of sender information that you want the cover page to display.

    • Click Message, and then click the type of message information that you want the cover page to display.

  5. To add text, click the Text button Picture of the Text button on the toolbar, and then drag your pointer to draw a text box. Type the text that you want the cover page to display (for example, your company name or e-mail address).
  6. To add a shape, click one of the shape buttons on the toolbar, click the area in the cover page where you want the shape to appear, and then drag your pointer until the shape is the correct size. You might use shapes to separate text boxes, for example.

  7. To add a company logo or other image, copy and paste it into any blank area.

  8. Arrange the text boxes as you want them to appear.

  9. To see how your cover page will look in print, click the File menu, and then click Print Preview. (When you're done with the preview, click Close.)

  10. If you're satisfied with the results, click the File menu, click Save, enter a file name for your new cover page, and then click Save.

To edit a cover page with Windows Fax and Scan

  1. Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.
  2. Make sure you're in Fax view by clicking Fax at the bottom of the left pane.

  3. Click the Tools menu, and then click Cover Pages.

  4. Select a cover page to edit, and then click Open.

  5. Make changes to the cover page as needed.

  6. Once you've edited the page, see how it will look by clicking the File menu, and then clicking Print Preview. (When you're done with the preview, click Close.)

  7. To save your changes, click the File menu, and then click Save.

You can also use Windows Fax and Scan with cover pages created by programs such as Microsoft Word. Just click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click Documents, double-click the Fax folder, and then copy the cover page file you've created into the Personal CoverPages folder.
