How do I move my emails from Outlook Express to my PC running Windows 8.1?

Outlook Express is no longer available or supported by Microsoft. We can help you move your emails and contacts to Outlook.com.

Outlook.com is a free, personal, web-based email service that's easy to use. It has many of the same great features of Outlook Express, along with some new ones. You can keep your current email address, send photos and files in emails and keep your inbox tidy. You can also get to your emails from any connected PC, tablet or phone. Follow the steps below and the Mail Migration add-on will move your emails and contacts over from Outlook Express.

Sign up for Outlook.com and move your Outlook Express emails and contacts

When you sign up for Outlook.com, your email address and password are your Microsoft account. If you have an email address that ends in msn.com, hotmail.com, live.com or outlook.com, you already have a Microsoft account.

  • Make sure that you're on the PC that contains your Outlook Express emails and contacts. While you're on that PC, click the button below that says Get started. This will launch the Mail Migration add-on that will move your emails and contacts.

  • You'll reach the Outlook.com sign-in page. Do one of the following:

If you don't have a Microsoft account, click Sign up now near the bottom of the page (where it asks whether you have a Microsoft account). Then, enter your email address and password to create your Outlook.com account.

If you already have a Microsoft account, enter your email address and password.

  • Once you've signed in, the Mail Migration add-on will automatically move your contacts and emails to your Outlook.com account.
