Where are my contacts?

  1. Click the arrow next to the Outlook.com logo in the top left.

Adding a contact

When you reply to an email that includes an email address which isn't on your contact list, you might be prompted to add it. You can also add contacts manually.

  1. In People, click New.

  2. Adding contact info. If you want to add more than one email address, phone number, etc., click on the Plus icon icon in that section.
  3. Click Save.

Adding or removing contacts in your favourites

Favourites appear in People at the top of your contact list. To add or remove contacts in your favourites, click on the contact, then click Add to favourites or Remove from favourites.

Editing or deleting a contact

In People, click a contact and then click Edit or Delete.

Note: Individual contact info from social networks can't be edited or deleted. For info on adding or removing social networks in your Outlook.com account, see Add friends from Facebook and other social networks.

Restoring deleted contacts

If you accidentally delete or lose contacts, you can restore them. See Restore deleted contacts.

Cleaning up duplicate contacts

You can combine duplicate contacts into a single one with all the contact info.

Use "Clean up contacts"

  1. In People, click Manage, then click Clean up contacts.

  2. Within each contact set, clear the checkbox for any contact you don't want in the set.

  3. Repeat step 2 for all contact sets, then click Clean up.

Searching and combining manually

  1. In the People search field, type the name of the contact you're looking for.

  2. In the search result, select the contacts you want to combine, then click Link.

Undoing a combined contact

When a new combined contact is created, the original duplicate contacts are then deleted. If you accidentally combine two or more contacts that are actually different people, here's how to restore them.

  1. In People, click Manage, then Restore deleted contacts.

  2. Select the original contacts you want to restore, then click Restore.

  3. Click the incorrectly-combined contact, click Delete, then click Delete again.

Working with groups

Groups appear alphabetically in your contact list. To see who's in a group, click on it.

Creating a new group

  1. Click the arrow next to New, then click New group.

  2. Enter a group name.

  3. Under Add member start entering a name or email address. When the contact appears on the list, click on it.

  4. When you've added all the members you want, click Save.

Or, you can do it this way.

  1. Click the checkbox next to each contact you want to add to a new group.

  2. Click Groups, then click New group.

  3. Enter a group name, then click Save.

Adding members to a group

  1. Click the name of the group you want to add members to, then click Edit.

  2. Under Add member start entering a name or email address. When the contact appears on the list, click on it.

  3. When you've added all the new members you want, click Save.

Or, you can do it this way.

  1. Click the checkbox next to each contact you want to add to the group.

  2. Click Groups, select the group you want to add them to, then click Apply.

Removing members from a group

  1. Click the name of the group you want to remove members from, then click Edit.

  2. Click the X under each member you want to remove, then click Save.

Or, you can do it this way.

  1. Click the checkbox next to each contact you want to remove from the group.

  2. Click Groups, clear the tick next to the group you want to remove them from, then click Apply.

    Note: Removing a contact from a group doesn't delete it from your contact list.

Deleting a group

  1. Click the group you want to delete.

  2. Click Delete, then click Delete again.

    Note: Deleting a group doesn't delete the contacts who were members.

Importing contacts from another email account or app

Import contacts from Google, Yahoo, another Outlook.com account, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013 or Windows Live Mail

  1. In People, under Import contacts, click Start import.

  2. Click Outlook.com, Google, Yahoo!, Outlook 2010 & Outlook 2013 or Windows Live Mail, and follow the instructions on the screen.

Note

  • The Outlook.com option also works for email addresses that end in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com or @msn.com.

From Outlook Express

You can upload your email and contacts from Outlook Express to Outlook.com. Install the mail migration add-on and follow the instructions.

From another email service

  1. Sign in to the email account you want to import contacts from.

  2. Export your contacts to a .CSV file, and save it to your hard drive.

    Different email services work differently. See your email provider's support pages for more info.

  3. Sign in to your Outlook.com account.

  4. In People, under Import contacts, click Start import, and then click Other email services.

  5. Browse to the file you saved in Step 2, click Upload and then follow the instructions on the screen.

Connect to your contacts from social networks

You can no longer connect your Facebook contacts to your Outlook.com account. This is due to the changes that Facebook has made to their Graph API and will impact Microsoft apps and services. Facebook’s Graph API is the tool we use to connect your Microsoft account to Facebook. For more information, please see Facebook Connect is no longer available.

In addition to contacts you've added or imported, you can set up People to show info from contact lists in your social networks such as Twitter and LinkedIn, as well as your Google or Yahoo accounts. Note that if you later disconnect the account, those contacts will no longer appear in your Outlook.com contact list.

In People, under Add people to your contact list, click the social network email service you want to connect to.

Note: Individual social network contact info can't be edited or deleted in Outlook.com. For more info, go to Add friends from Facebook and other social networks.

Missing contacts from the People page after removing a connected services

If you've recently removed a connected service from your Outlook.com account such as Google or Twitter, any contacts associated with that service will also be removed from the People page. If you've recently removed your Facebook contacts, you will not be able to restore them. See Facebook Connect is no longer available for more information. To restore the missing contacts, you'll need to reconnect the service to your Outlook.com account. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Sign in to https://account.live.com.

  • Click Related accounts, then click Manage other accounts.

  • Click Add accounts, then click on the service you want to add.

  • You'll be asked to sign in to the third-party service. When the service has been added, you'll receive confirmation.

  • You'll also receive a confirmation email from Microsoft.

  • Go to https://people.live.com to check if the contacts from the service have been included in your contact list.

Sending invitations to join your Skype contact list

Invite contacts from your address book to join your Skype contact list. Under People we found on Skype, click Invite.
