Keep track of the websites you visit frequently by storing them as favorites in Internet Explorer. Favorites are shared between Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer for the desktop, so you can view, add to, and organize your favorites from both the address bar and the traditional favorites list in Internet Explorer for the desktop.

Add favorites

If you're on a site that you want to make a favorite, swipe up from the bottom edge (or right-click) to bring up the app commands, tap or click the Favorites button Favorites button, tap or click Add to favorites Add to favorites, and then tap or click Add. You can also save a favorite by pressing Ctrl+D.

Or, in the desktop browser, tap or click the Favorites button next to the address bar, and then tap or click Add to favorites.

View your favorites

To view your favorites, swipe up to bring up the app commands, and then tap or click the Favorites button Favorites button. If you have your favorites organized into folders, tap or click the Favorites dropdown menu and select a folder to view it. Tap or click any favorite to go to that site.

In the desktop, tap or click the Favorites button next to the address bar to view favorites. Tap or click any favorite in the list to go to that site.

Organize your favorites with folders

Make your favorites easier to keep track of by organizing them into folders. For example, group news sites into a "Daily news" folder, or shopping sites into "My shops."

  1. On the Start screen, tap or click Internet Explorer to open Internet Explorer.

  2. Swipe up from the bottom edge to bring up the app commands, and then tap or click the Favorites button Favorites button.
  3. Tap or click Add to favorites, and then tap or click New folder.
  4. Enter a name for your folder, and then tap or click Create.

Next time you add a favorite, select this folder (or another folder) from the dropdown menu before you tap or click Add.

To create new folders in the desktop

  1. Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.

  2. Tap or click the Favorites button next to the address bar.

  3. From the dropdown menu, tap or click Organize favorites.

  4. Tap or click New Folder, and then enter a name for your new folder.

  5. Drag saved favorites in your new folder.

    You can also Rename, Reorganize, and Delete favorites or folders from the Organize Favorites dialog box.

Sort your favorites alphabetically

Open the desktop, tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar, tap or click the Favorites button, press and hold (or right-click) any favorite or folder, and then tap or click Sort by name.

Export favorites

If you use Internet Explorer on more than one PC, you can export your favorites from one PC and then import them to another.

  1. Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.

  2. Tap or click the Favorites button.

  3. From the dropdown menu, tap or click Import and export.

  4. In the Import/Export Settings dialog box, select Export to a file, and then tap or click Next.

  5. Select Favorites (and any other settings) you'd like to export, and then tap or click Next.

  6. Select the folders of favorites that you want to export, and then tap or click Next. Internet Explorer automatically exports all subfolders.

  7. By default, Internet Explorer creates a file called bookmark.htm in your Documents folder. If you want to store the exported favorites to a place other than Documents (like a disc or a flash drive), tap or click Browse, and then select a different drive. Tap or click Save.

  8. Tap or click Finish.

Import favorites

Import favorites from one PC to another.

  1. Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.

  2. Tap or click the Favorites button.

  3. From the dropdown menu, tap or click Import and export.

  4. In the Import/Export Settings dialog box, select Import from a file, and then tap or click Next.

  5. Select Favorites (and any other settings) you'd like to import, and then tap or click Next.

  6. By default, Internet Explorer imports from a file called bookmark.htm in your Documents folder. Tap or click Next to import the default file, or tell Internet Explorer to import favorites from a difference place. Tap or click Browse and select a file, or type a location and file name to import. Tap or click Next.

  7. Select the folder where you want to save the imported favorites, and then tap or click Import.

  8. Tap or click Finish.
