How do I search for a business or address?

  1. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)

  2. Tap or click Search.

  3. Enter your search term in the search box, and tap or click the Search button Search button.

You can also start typing while in the app and the search box will appear.

To clear the search results from the map

  1. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)

  2. Tap or click Clear Map.

How do I view business details?

To view business details from the search results

  1. Tap or click a business in the list of search results to select it.

  2. Tap or click the business name to open the business details pane.

To view business details for a business from the map

  1. Tap or click the pin for the business on the map. Details about the business appear, including the business name, address, and additional options.

  2. Tap or click the business name to open the business details pane.

How do I get directions to a location?

  1. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)

  2. Tap or click the Directions button Directions button.
  3. Enter your start and end location and choose route options.

  4. Tap or click the Get Directions button Get Directions button.

To get directions to a search result

  1. Tap or click a search result.

  2. Tap or click the Directions button Directions button.
  3. Enter your start location and choose route options.

  4. Tap or click the Get Directions button Get Directions button.

To get directions to a pin on the map

  1. Tap or click the pin.

  2. Tap or click the Directions button Directions button.

    Note

    • If the search result is a business and you aren't in the business details pane, you might need to tap or click a second time to see the Directions button Directions button.
  3. Enter your start location and choose route options.

  4. Tap or click the Get Directions button Get Directions button.

How do I switch between Road and Aerial views?

  1. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)

  2. Tap or click Map Style, and then choose a view.

How do I view traffic on the map?

  1. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)

  2. Tap or click Map Style, and then choose Show traffic.

A traffic overlay appears on the map.

How do I add or edit Favorites?

To add a search result to your Favorites

  • Tap or click the search result, and then click the Favorites button Favorites button on the pin or in the business details pane.

Note

  • If the search result is a business and you aren't in the business details pane, you might need to tap or click a second time to see the Favorites button Favorites button.

To edit a Favorite from your Favorites list

  1. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)

  2. Tap or click FAVORITES.

  3. Swipe down on or right-click the favorite place or route you want to edit.

  4. Tap or click Edit.

To edit a Favorite from the map

  1. Tap or click the pin that represents the Favorite.

  2. Tap or click Edit on the bottom of the screen.

How do I set my Home location?

  1. Add the location to your Favorites.

  2. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)

  3. Tap or click FAVORITES, then swipe down on or right-click the location to select it.

  4. Tap or click Set as Home on the bottom of the screen.

How do I get personalized recommendations (Picks for you) using my Microsoft account and Facebook accounts?

If you're signed in to your device with your Microsoft account and Facebook account, you'll receive personalized search results based on your previous searches and interests. To view personalized results, tap or click Picks for you when you view Local search results. (Not available in all markets.)

What kind of recommendations will I see in Picks for you?

  • When your Microsoft and Facebook accounts are connected to the Maps app, we can give you personalized suggestions for places to eat, drink, shop, or visit. You’ll see recommendations for all sorts of things including:

    • Places, such as parks, concert venues, fairgrounds, museums, and other attractions

    • Events, such as concerts, festivals, lectures, readings, and other performances

    • Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, dessert places, and other places to eat and drink

How does Picks for you use my Microsoft and Facebook accounts?

  • When your Microsoft account is connected we’ll be able to get a sense of your tastes and preferences based on the things you do on your Windows Phone or in other places where you sign in with the same Microsoft account, like Bing. For example, if you often search for pizza places (whenever you’ve signed in to Bing), we can suggest ones that are nearby.

    When your Facebook account is connected, we can include the things that you or your friends have liked and places where you or your friends have checked in. For example, if some of your friends like a particular restaurant, we can suggest that to you.

To turn off personalized recommendations

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Accounts. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Accounts.)

  2. Select the account you want to remove, and then tap or click Remove.

Note

  • When you choose to remove your Microsoft account, the account remains listed on the Accounts pane, but isn't connected to the app and won't provide personalized results.

How do I clear my search history?

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Options. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Options.)

  2. Tap or click Clear search history.

How do I report a problem?

  1. To give feedback, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Feedback. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Feedback.)

  2. Follow the steps to submit your feedback.

You can also tap or click Report a problem from some locations within the app.
