What happens if I turn off Windows Media Center?

Some programs and features that are included with Windows are turned on by default, including Windows Media Center. You can turn off Windows Media Center if you don’t use it.

Turning off Windows Media Center removes it from Windows but doesn’t reduce the amount of hard disk space used by Windows. It will remain stored on your hard disk, so you can turn Windows Media Center back on if you want to.

If you turn off Windows Media Center:

You won't be able to do any of the following tasks.

  • Watch, pause, and record live TV in Windows Media Center. You'll need to install another program to do this in Windows.

  • Watch slide shows of your photos in Windows Media Center.

  • Play videos or music in Windows Media Center.
