Add your email contacts, Facebook friends, and more to People

The People app makes it easier to keep track of everyone who matters to you. You can quickly add your email contacts, your social networks, the people you follow on Twitter, and more to one central contact list . When your friends update their contact info somewhere like Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter, or you make a change in another account, it automatically updates in People. And when you use other apps, like Mail, you can choose from this list of contacts. Make sure you have a Microsoft account and are signed in with that before you start using the People app.

Add and edit contacts

Here's how to add people from your existing contact lists and address books:

  • Open the Settings charm, and then select Add an account.

  • Select the email or social networking account you want to add, and then follow the instructions.

Here's how you edit contact details for a person after you've added them:

  1. Tap or click a contact.

  2. Open app commands—swipe up from the bottom edge (or right-click with a mouse)—and then tap or click Edit.

  3. Make the changes you want and then tap or click the save icon.

Note

Note

  • Google has indicated that as of January 30, 2013, it intends to stop support for new EAS (Exchange ActiveSync) connections in some scenarios so the way you add your Google contacts might change. For more info, see How to sync Google services with Windows.

Find people

Once you’ve added people, there are lots of ways to get to their contact info, and to keep track of what they're up to.

  • Search. In People, open the Search charm, and then enter the person’s name.

  • Jump to a letter of the alphabet. In People, zoom out to see just the alphabet. Select a letter to go right to people whose names begin with that letter.

  • Pin them to Start. You’ll see their updates and Tweets as they happen, and then can go straight to their contact info and updates.

  • Get to them when using other apps. Apps that use contact info, such as Mail and Skype, can open your contact list directly and let you choose the people you want.

  • Add them as a favorite. Their picture will be the first thing you see when you open People.

Connect with people

Once you've found someone, you have several ways to reach out to them right from there:

  • Send them an instant message or an email.

  • Call or video call them.

  • Map their address.

  • Write on their Facebook wall.
