It’s easy to share your Windows 10 PC with family members. Add family members using "Add a family member" from your PC's Settings, and they’ll be able to use that PC as well. And you're always in control. You can allow or block them from using a PC at any time.

Add kids to your family to help them stay safer online. Adults in the family can view reports of kids’ online activity, limit how long and when they use their devices, and help make sure they don't see inappropriate websites, apps, or games. Manage family settings online at, and changes will be applied to any Windows 10 device the child signs in to. You can also add adults to your family who will also be able to apply settings to children in the family.


  • If your PC is connected to a domain, family settings might not be available. Check with your system admin.

To add someone to your family

  1. On your Windows 10 PC, go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.

  2. Click Add a family member.

  3. Select Add a child or Add an adult.

  4. Enter the email address of the person to send them an invitation to join.

  5. If they don't have an email address, click The person I want to invite doesn’t have an email address.

  6. After they've accepted the email invitation, have them sign in to Windows 10 using the same email address you sent the invitation to.

To manage family settings

  1. On your Windows 10 PC, Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.

  2. Click Manage family settings.

  3. Select settings to turn on for your child's account:

    • Recent activity allows you to turn on activity reporting for your child so that you can see what they've been searching for online. Once you've turned it on, you can see what websites they've been visiting, what apps and games they've been downloading and playing, and how much time they've been spending on their devices right from the Recent activity page. You can also get activity reports emailed to adults in the family weekly.

    • Websites is where you can turn on website restrictions for your child. You can choose to block or allow specific sites and to restrict websites rated beyond a certain age. If you have very young children, you can also choose to only allow them to visit websites you've decided are safe.

    • Apps & games is where you can turn on restrictions for apps and games. You can choose to only allow you child to download games below a certain age rating and you can see the apps and games that you've blocked or allowed.

    • Screen time allows you to set limits as to when during the day your child can be on their Windows devices and the maximum amount of time they can spend on each device per day.

To allow or block someone from using the PC

  1. On your Windows 10 PC, Go to Settings > Accounts > Family and other users.

  2. Click the family member you want to allow or block.

  3. Click Allow or block.

    The setting only applies to this PC.


  • You cannot remove yourself from a family if you are the only adult and there are still child accounts still in the family. If you want to remove yourself, you'll need to add another adult first, or remove all the child accounts first.
