Pin Internet Explorer to the Start screen and taskbar

If you can't find Internet Explorer on the Start screen or on the taskbar in the desktop, check to make sure it wasn't accidentally unpinned.

To repin Internet Explorer to Start

  1. On the Start screen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.)

  2. Enter Internet Explorer, and then tap or click Apps.

  3. In the search results, swipe down on the Internet Explorer icon, and then tap Pin to Start.

    (If you're using a mouse, right-click Internet Explorer, and then click Pin to Start.)

To repin Internet Explorer to the taskbar

  1. On the Start screen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.)

  2. Enter Internet Explorer, and then tap or click Apps.

  3. In the search results, swipe down on the Internet Explorer icon, and then tap Pin to taskbar.

    (If you're using a mouse, right-click Internet Explorer, and then click Pin to taskbar.)

Sometimes installing another browser turns off Internet Explorer, so you won't be able to find it using the Search charm. If this happens, try the following steps to turn it back on. Doing this will also repin Internet Explorer to the Start screen.

To turn on Internet Explorer

  1. On the Start screen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.)

  2. Enter Control panel, and then tap or click Apps.

  3. In the search results, tap or click Control Panel.

  4. Tap or click Programs.

  5. Under Programs and Features, tap or click Turn Windows features on or off.

  6. In the dialog box, select the Internet Explorer 10 check box, and then tap or click OK.

  7. When prompted to restart your PC, tap or click Restart now.

  8. After restarting, swipe in from the right edge of the Start screen, and then tap or click Search.

  9. Enter Internet Explorer, and then tap or click Apps.

  10. In the search results, swipe down on the Internet Explorer icon, and then tap Pin to Start and Pin to taskbar.

    (If you're using a mouse, right-click Internet Explorer, and then click Pin to Start and Pin to taskbar.)
