The exercise tracker allows you to track your daily fitness activity and maintain a record of your daily workouts. You can sync your tracker data across devices by connecting to HealthVault, a free online service by Microsoft.
Swipe down from the top edge or right-click, and then select Exercise Tracker under the Trackers section.
Based on whether you want to add a cardio activity or a strength exercise, you can tap or click the + Exercise button.
You can either choose an exercise from your favorites list or enter an exercise name in the search box and choose from the suggestions. You can also press Enter for more results.
You can modify the details of the exercise, which can vary based on whether it is a cardio activity or a strength exercise.
You can additionally add a set of exercises as a circuit by tapping the Save as a new circuit check box at the bottom.
You can also edit the exercises inline at a later stage.
The analysis tabs give you further information on the exercises you've added to the tracker.
The Health Tracker allows you to track your weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and vaccination schedules, consolidating all the information in one place for you to refer and track easily.
Swipe down from the top edge or right-click, and then select Health Tracker under the section Trackers.
Tap or click the Manage Trackers button at the top right corner and select/clear a particular tracker by tapping or clicking the tracker name.
Tap or click anywhere outside the drop down to close it and view the list of trackers.
Clear all the trackers from the Manage Trackers drop down as described in the previous section.
Select the trackers that you want to use in the order you would want to display on the page from left to right. For instance, if you want to view Blood Pressure Tracker followed by the Cholesterol Tracker then you should unselect all the trackers and tap or click Blood Pressure followed by Cholesterol.
The symptom checker allows you to choose a particular body part, choose from a list of related symptoms and then narrow down to a list of possible conditions, before reading about the individual conditions.
Swipe down from the top edge or right-click, and then select Symptom Checker from the list.
Tap or click the Gender drop down to choose the appropriate human body model that most closely resembles the person with the symptoms. This helps in displaying a more relevant set of symptoms based on the model chosen.
Tap or click a relevant body part or choose from Non-specific symptoms.
Tap or click one or multiple symptoms from the list of symptoms.
Tap or click Symptoms within the second level of symptoms to refine the list of possible conditions.
Choose a condition from the final list of conditions to read and understand more about it.
Additionally, you can also use the 3D Human Body feature to further understand a particular body that is affected by the condition you searched for.
The 3D human body allows you to choose from different organ systems of the human body and select specific body parts to read more about them.
Swipe down from the top edge or right-click, and then select 3D Human Body from the list.
Choose the appropriate gender of the human model by tapping the gender icon under the human body.
Choose the relevant organ system such as the nervous system or the muscular system if required, based on what you're searching for.
Rotate and scroll to the relevant portion of the body. You can also tap or click a particular region to zoom in.
Tap or click a particular body part or organ to highlight it and view the related article with more information on it.
You can additionally use the Related Anatomy and the Related Systems tabs to view related articles.
At any point, you can refresh the view to default by tapping or clicking the refresh button under the human body.
Additionally, you can use the Symptom Checker feature to check possible symptoms and related conditions.
The daily calorie target is the recommended calorie intake for you based on your lifestyle, weight goal and other profile information. You can use the calculated recommended calorie target or set a custom calorie target from the Personalization pane.
Swipe down from the top edge or right-click, select Trackers, and then select Diet Tracker.
Tap or click the Find your recommended daily calorie target tab or tap My Profile in the Quick Access section to open the Personalization pane.
In the Personalization pane, complete the My Profile and My Calorie Target sections to get your recommended daily calorie target based on your weight goal or set a custom calorie target of your choice.
Tap or click outside the Personalization pane and your customized calorie target will be updated.
You can track your diet and count calories with the Diet Tracker.
Add a food item under the relevant food section.
You can search for foods by typing your query in the search box. Choose an option from the list of suggestions or press Enter for more results.
As you keep adding food items to the Diet Tracker, you can use the Recent and Favorite tabs to add foods quicker. You can also add custom foods using the Custom tab.
Tap or click Done to add selected food items to the tracker. To cancel adding foods, tap or click outside the Add Food pop-up.
Apart from an extensive list of food items that you can choose from while tracking your diet, the Bing Health & Fitness app also allows you to add your own custom foods and nutrition information.
Swipe down from the top edge or right-click, and under the section Trackers, select Diet Tracker.
Scroll to the custom tab in the Add Food section.
Tap or click the Enter Custom Food header in that section.
Additionally, if you enter a search query and press Enter, you'll see Add this as a custom food at the end of the list of search results.
Enter the custom food details including Food Name, Serving Size and Calories contained.
Tap or click Save once you have entered the details. The custom food should now show under the Custom tab.
You can also enter the fat, protein, and carbohydrates contained in the custom food in grams. This helps in tracking their percentage consumption on a particular day along with the calories consumed.
Comparing food items allows you to better understand what you consume and therefore make a more informed decision when it comes to choosing between different food items and their serving sizes. The feature allows you to compare all the dietary information for two foods.
Select Food from the Quick Access section.
Search for a particular food item and tap or click one of the suggested options.
In the food details page, tap or click Compare.
Search for the second food item and choose from the suggestions.
Choose appropriate servings and serving sizes for the two food items being compared.
Additionally, you can also view the entire food details for any of the two foods by tapping or clicking See Full Nutritional Info at the bottom.
At any point of time, to return to the original food details page, tap or click outside the Compare Foods pop-up.
The daily calorie target tool recommends a calorie intake based on your lifestyle, weight goals, and profile information. There are certain things that need to be noted while using this information in the diet tracker:
The values are personalized for you and are recommended by taking your keeping and intended weight goal in mind. At any point changing your profile information such as gender, height, weight and age can also affect these values.
A minimum of 1200 calories is recommended for a healthy nutritional intake. A recommended calorie value less than 1200 calories should not be adhered to.
The Bing Health & Fitness app is made for people above 14 years of age. People under the age of 14 should not try to compute their recommended daily calorie target using this tool.

You can choose from four different font sizes—small, medium, large or x-large and two text styles from within an article that you're reading.

Scroll through content: To browse through content horizontally as in articles, you can use the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen or the scroll wheel of the mouse. The Bing Health & Fitness app couples rich content with a sublime user experience across fitness, nutrition and medical information. From interactive human body maps to multi-angle fitness videos, from an extremely exhaustive foods database to a comprehensive symptom checker, this app holds a lot of information for every user. To assist in efficiently browsing through and discovering content in the app, a powerful in-app search feature is available to you.
Enter any search query in the global search box at the upper-right corner in any page. You can start typing anywhere inside the app and the search query will automatically appear in the search box.
Based on your search query, the Bing search engine will either power results across the four verticals (Fitness, Nutrition, Medical, and Articles/News) in a generic search results page or a more detailed result through a dedicated browse page. For instance, searching for the word "heart" would show generic search results whereas searching for "barbell front split squat" would give you a dedicated fitness browse experience.
On the browse pages, you can filter content based on pre-defined filters that get activated based on the content being searched. Multi-selection of filters and values within those filters is supported.
Additionally, you can also do one of the following to find relevant content in the app:
Swipe down from the top of the screen or right-click the Home Page and select from one of the multiple tiles in the top header.
Swipe right across the home panorama and choose from a rich collection of showcased content.
Tap or click a particular tile in the QUICK ACCESS bar.
In the Exercise Tracker and Diet Tracker sections, while adding an entry, you can search for exercises or food items by entering a term in the search box. You can choose a result from the dropdown or press Enter to find additional search results.
You can personalize your app experience by completing your profile and selecting your content preferences in the personalization pane. This will personalize the fitness content that is featured on the Home Page, the in-app browsing experience, calculate your calorie burn rates and recommended calorie targets besides syncing your account with HealthVault.
You can open the Personalization pane by tapping or clicking My Profile from the QUICK ACCESS bar.
The personalization pane has four sections and it is recommended that all sections are completed to enjoy a seamless personalization experience. Additionally, the My Calorie Target section mandatorily requires My Profile section to be filled in to compute your recommended daily calorie target. Syncing with HealthVault only helps in syncing and keeping track of your tracker information, but doesn't sync or update your profile information.
If you have a HealthVault account, you can sync it with Bing Health & Fitness, so that you see your HealthVault data in the Health Trackers and data you add to Bing Health & Fitness is saved to your HealthVault record. Connecting with HealthVault allows you to sync your health, diet and exercise tracker data across multiple devices.
Before you start:
Bing Health & Fitness connects with your HealthVault account using your Microsoft account.
If you connected your Windows user account with a Microsoft account (recommended), be sure it’s with the same one used for your HealthVault account. You won’t be able to sign in to HealthVault with a different Microsoft account.
If you haven't connected your Windows account with a Microsoft account, you'll be asked to enter your Microsoft account during the following steps.
If you need to add your Microsoft account to HealthVault, you can add it now by following the steps in this knowledge base article.
To connect Bing Health & Fitness with your data in HealthVault:
Bing Health & Fitness app, swipe down from the top edge or right-click, select Trackers, and then select Diet Tracker, Exercise Tracker, or Health Tracker.
Tap or click
Sync with HealthVault.
Tap or click I accept.
Here are some things to check when you think your data is missing:
Have you signed in to the right account?
Check that you've signed in to the correct HealthVault account. See more info in the section "How do I connect with my data in Microsoft HealthVault?"
If you already have a HealthVault account, you shouldn’t be asked to create a new account when you sync it with Bing Health & Fitness.
Are you looking at data for the right person?
When you sync it with HealthVault, Bing Health & Fitness gets the data from the “default” person, the person whose information appears first when you sign in to HealthVault, usually yourself. You can’t choose to use Bing Health & Fitness for a different person.
Is your computer connected to the Internet?
Bing Health & Fitness can work offline. It will sync the data with HealthVault the next time you’re connected to the Internet.
To disconnect from HealthVault, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen or right-click, and then choose
Disconnect from HealthVault. Please note that any data that synced from HealthVault before you disconnected will still be available in Bing Health & Fitness, but the data will no longer stay in sync.
You don’t need to disconnect each time you’re done using Bing Health & Fitness for the moment. Instead, only disconnect if you’ve decided you no longer want to keep HealthVault and Bing Health & Fitness in sync. You can help protect your sensitive data by locking or signing out of Windows when you’re away from your PC.

Steps is an always-on pedometer that's built into your Windows Phone. With Steps, you can track your steps, calories burned, and distance travelled, even if your app isn't running.
Research shows that you're more likely to be active if you monitor and receive feedback on your progress. Using Steps, you can set your steps goals and see your progress analyzed over time.
Scientific evidence has shown that a person walking 10,000 steps a day improves his or her health over time.
Your steps are tracked continuously in the background even when the app isn't running.
While steps tracking consumes a small amount of power, you shouldn't see any noticeable wear on your battery life.
The distance you cover is calculated based on your stride length: the distance measured from the heel of one foot to the heel of the other in each step. The default value is calculated based on your user profile. For more accurate results fill out the My Profile section completely.
To fill out your profile, open the Bing Health & Fitness app, tap …, tap Settings, and then swipe to the My Profile page.
Walk a known distance and use the GPS Tracker to measure distance.
Divide the distance by the number of steps.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 while running to calculate your running stride length.
Calories burned are calculated based on profile information (height, weight, age, and gender), activity name, distance, and duration.
Your profile information allows us to calculate calories burned more accurately.
If you change your profile information, the calories for your past activities won't be recalculated. It's recommended that you update your profile information before you start tracking your workouts.
To update your profile, open the Bing Health & Fitness app, tap …, tap Settings, and then swipe to the My Profile page.
Launch the GPS Tracker, and then tap Start workout to start tracking.
Yes, you'll find a single entry in the Cardio Tracker that corresponds to your daily steps activity, the associated duration, calories burned, and distance.
Steps is always on, so the pedometer data and analysis will contain all GPS Tracker activities.
Yes, you can add custom entries to the Cardio Tracker. For specific activities related to running or walking, it is recommended that you use the GPS Tracker.
Tap the Settings app on your phone, then tap Location, and make sure that Location services is set to On.
To make sure you have the latest version of the app installed, visit the Windows Phone store Bing Health & Fitness app page. If there's an update prompt, install the updated version of the app.
Open the Bing Health & Fitness app, tap …, swipe to the permissions page, and make sure that Location services is set to On.
Make sure that your phone has a direct line of sight to the sky, and that you're in an area free of trees or tall buildings. Tap GPS Tracker and wait for the Detecting your location prompt to disappear before starting your workout. If it takes too long to disappear, remain in one place, and make sure your data connection is turned on to speed up the location detection.
If your GPS still can't detect your location, please restart your phone and try these steps again.
If you plan to work out more than four hours, please do one of the following:
While you're in the Bing Health & Fitness app, press the power button to lock your screen.
Launch the Bing Health & Fitness app periodically during your workout (at least once during a four-hour time frame).
Windows Phone will only allow a certain number of apps to run in the background. Follow these steps to make sure the Bing Health & Fitness app continues to run.
Launch the Battery Saver app, and then tap Bing Health & Fitness.
If the Allow app to run in the background setting is set to On, turn it off and then on again. If it's set to Off, turn it on. (You might need to turn off Background Task permissions for at least one other app first.)
No, you don't need a network signal or data connection to track your workouts. Only a satellite (GPS) signal is used. As long as the GPS is turned on and your phone can pick up a clear signal (see The GPS on my phone can't detect my location), you'll be able to track your workout.
In some cases, a data connection might be required to download the map on which your route is shown. This won't affect your workout statistics because the map is simply a visual aid and can be downloaded even after your workout.
If you want your data to sync to other Windows devices, you'll need a Wi–Fi or a data connection, and you'll need to connect to HealthVault.
Audio cues provide progress updates (distance covered, duration, and average pace) during your workout.
You can customize the frequency of audio cues based on distance (every mile or kilometer) or time (every five minutes or 15 minutes). You can also turn off audio cues.
To customize or turn off audio cues, open the Bing Health & Fitness app, tap …, tap Settings, swipe to the My Profile page, and then click the GPS Tracker Settings link.
To change the frequency of audio cues, choose from the options in the Give an audio cue after every dropdown.
To turn off audio cues, uncheck the Enable audio cues checkbox.
Audio cues can only be turned on if there is a text-to-speech (TTS) engine on your phone. If your audio cue controls are disabled on the GPS Tracker Settings page, you need to download a Speech Language Pack (which includes a TTS engine). Tap the Settings app on your phone, tap the Speech option, and then select the language pack that matches the language you use for the Bing Health & Fitness app. Once this is done, audio cues will automatically be turned on.
The Bing Health & Fitness app supports some languages for which Speech Language Packs are not yet available. Audio cues aren't available for these languages.
To update your profile information, open the Bing Health & Fitness app, tap …, tap Settings, and then swipe to the My Profile page.
Your date of birth allows the app to automatically increase your age with time for ongoing accurate calorie calculations. It's also recommended that you update your weight as it changes in the My Profile section for accuracy in calories consumed.
The distance unit can be changed in the My Profile section of Settings. Once you change this preference, the distance of all past workouts is recalculated and displayed in your preferred unit.
Currently, we display and sync data that is added via Windows devices only. Your workout data syncs across Windows devices once you sign in to HealthVault.
To sign in to HealthVault, open the Bing Health & Fitness app, tap …, tap Settings, swipe to the HealthVault page, and then follow the instructions.
For performance reasons, Windows Phone allows only one location tracking app to remain active at any given time. If you need to use an app that requires access to your location while the Bing Health & Fitness app is tracking your workout (even a non-fitness app, such as Facebook or Bing search), we recommend that you launch the Bing Health & Fitness app again after you're done so the app remains active and continues to track your workout.
GPS tracking doesn't work in the background if the Battery Saver mode is on. If you have turned on Battery Saver, we recommend that you check to make sure that your phone has enough charge before your workout. Or you can go to the Battery Saver app on your phone and allow the Bing Health & Fitness app to run under the Battery Saver mode. However, please note that choosing this option might result in your phone running out of power if you run it for a long time under low battery conditions.
Your profile information will sync across Windows devices when you sign in to your Microsoft account. You only need to update it in one device and it will be up to date in all your other Windows devices.
