Here are answers to some common questions about Web Slices.
A Web Slice is a specific portion of a webpage that you can subscribe to, and which enables you to see when updated content—such as the current temperature, or a changing auction price—is available from your favorite websites. Once you have subscribed to the Web Slice, it appears as a link on the Favorites bar. When the Web Slice is updated, the link on the Favorites bar will appear with bold formatting. You can then click the link to see the updated content.
Yes. To enable sounds for Web Slices, follow these steps:
Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Internet Explorer, and then, in the list of results, click Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Content tab, and then, under Feeds and Web Slices, click Settings.
In the Feed and Web Slice Settings dialog box, select one or both of the following check boxes:
Play a sound when a feed or Web Slice is found for a webpage
Play a sound when a monitored feed or Web Slice is updated

To add a Web Slice to the Favorites bar, follow these steps:
Go to the page with a Web Slice you want to add to the Favorites bar.
Do one of the following:
In the dialog box, click Add to Favorites Bar.
After you add a Web Slice, you will see it appear on the left side of the Favorites bar.
To delete a Web Slice from the Favorites bar, right-click the Web Slice, and then click Delete.
If you are using Windows Vista, there is a known issue with Web Slices that use cookies for authentication when Protected Mode is on. If you are having problems with a Web Slice in Windows Vista, delete the Web Slice from the Favorites bar, close Internet Explorer, and follow these steps:
In the list of results, right-click Internet Explorer, and then click Run as administrator.
After Internet Explorer starts, try adding the Web Slice again.
You can stop Web Slice buttons from appearing on a webpage by following these steps:
In the Feed and Web Slice Settings dialog box, clear the Turn on in page Web Slice discovery check box.
