OneDrive for Android: FAQ

Here are the basics about using the OneDrive app for Android. Download the app.

  • You can now add OneDrive for Business accounts to the OneDrive app for Android (on devices running Android 4.0 or later). To do this, open the OneDrive app, tap the OneDrive icon, and then tap Add a business account. If you want to sign in with OneDrive for Business account, your organization needs to have a qualifying Office 365 SharePoint Online or Office 365 business subscription plan. You can't sign in with an account from an on-premises directory.

Sign in

To add a personal account, enter your Microsoft account on the sign in page. To add a OneDrive for Business account, enter the email address you use for your company, school, or other organization.

If you have a problem signing in with your OneDrive for Business account, try signing in at http://portal.microsoftonline.com/onedrive or contact your IT department.

Add photos or videos

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Choose where you want to upload the pictures to, tap the Upload button and then tap Upload photos and videos.

  3. Choose the files you want to upload and tap UPLOAD.

Share a file (personal OneDrive accounts only)

  1. In the OneDrive app, press and hold the file or folder you want to share and tap the Share button.

  2. To give only specific people permission, choose Invite people, add the contacts, and then tap Send. To get a link that you can paste in a message, choose Share a link, choose View or Edit, and then tap OK. To download and attach the file, choose Send files, and then choose the app you want to use.

Automatically upload photos and videos you take (personal OneDrive accounts only)

When you first sign in to OneDrive, you'll be asked if you'd like to automatically upload photos and videos you take on your phone to OneDrive. Tap Turn on to turn on automatic upload. You can also turn this on from Settings. Here's how:

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Open Settings and tap Camera backup.

  3. Set Camera backup to ON.

Notes

  • Camera backup is available only on devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or later.

  • All photos and videos will be uploaded at their original sizes when you're on a Wi‑Fi network. If you want to use your mobile network, open the OneDrive app, open Settings, tap Camera backup, tap Upload using, and choose Wi‑Fi and mobile network.

Change how files are sorted

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Open the folder you want to sort, and then tap the Sort button. You can sort by name, date, or size.

Download multiple files to your device

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Open the folder that has the files you want to download.

  3. Tap the Switch view button to switch to selection mode, select the files that you want to download, and then tap the Save button.

  4. Select the location where you want to save the downloaded files.

Add a PIN code

You can add a PIN code to help prevent other people who use your device from accidentally accessing, changing, or deleting your files.

  1. In the OneDrive app, open Settings.

  2. Tap Require code to use app, and then turn on Require code.

  3. Enter a 4-digit code, and then enter it again to verify it.

Switch between accounts

To switch between a personal OneDrive account and a OneDrive for Business account, or between multiple OneDrive for Business accounts, tap the OneDrive icon, and then tap the account you want to use.

You can add only one personal account to the OneDrive app. To open a different personal account, open Settings, tap your account name, tap Sign out, and then sign in with the account you want to use.

In the OneDrive app, open Settings and tap your account name to see your total storage and space available.
