Mail has some new ways to help you stay on top of your email.
Adding someone to favorites is a great way to organize email from the people most important to you like your boss, coworker, family, or friends. When you add a person to favorites, you can see all messages that they've sent you. This is a great way to get to messages from these people quickly and always know when you get new messages from them (you'll see a number next to their name indicating the number of new messages from them). Adding people to favorites also gives you the option of receiving notifications when you get an email from anyone on that list.
Making someone a favorite doesn’t actually move messages from the inbox—it just gives you another way to see messages from certain people.
To start you off, we try to provide some suggestions in the Favorites list based on how frequently you keep in touch with them but you can personalize the list by adding or removing people. Here's how:
Tap or click People.
Under Frequent, tap or click the Add button next to a person's name to move them to Favorites.
If you don't see anyone under Frequent, tap or click Browse contacts to search for and add people from your contact list. You can then move them to Favorites as shown earlier on.
Newsletters and messages from social networks are automatically filed away to different places in your inbox so you can get to them when you choose to. This also helps clear up your Outlook.com inbox so you don't accidentally miss messages from family, friends, and other people you email often.
Newsletters. Deals, sales-related newsletters, and messages from retailers or sites have been moved here.
Social updates. Messages from social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter have been moved here.
These messages won’t appear in your inbox any longer.
You can choose what you want to see in Newsletters and Social updates by moving messages back and forth between the inbox and these views. Don't worry, you just need to do this once—we'll take care of doing the same for older messages and you'll see an option to do this for future messages.
If you decide you'd rather not have your email arranged this way and want to continue to see them in your inbox, here's how you can change it:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Settings.(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Settings.)
Tap or click the account you want.
Scroll down if needed and then clear the Show newsletters separately and/or Show social updates separately checkbox.
Go to your inbox.
Swipe in from the bottom edge to see the app commands.(If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)
Tap or click Manage folders and then tap or click Create folder.
Tap or click the space just before a message and then select the boxes next to the messages you want to move.
Drag the messages to whichever folder you want.
You can also use Move in app commands to do this.
Tap or click Move and then tap or click tap or click the name of the folder you’d like to move messages to.
Tap or click the space just before a message and then select the boxes next to the messages want to flag.
Tap or click Flag.
